UPCOMING EVENTS:

AUGUST 22, 1995 - 7:00 PM - TUESDAY (Please Note Date!)

THE MERGING OF OBJECT-ORIENTED AND DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMS

The System Object Model (SOM) with the Distributed SOM
(DSOM) framework is IBM's implementation to the Object
Management Group's (OMG) Common Object Requester Broker
Architecture (CORBA). This framework provides
transparent communication between distributed objects. That
is, you can now invoke a method on an object irrespective
of whether that object is located in the same process, in
another process on the same machine, or on another machine
across the network. Robert H. High Jr., a Senior Programmer
in IBM's Object Technology Products organization, will
present an introduction to this material and elaborate on
how developers and end users benefit from this emerging
technology. Security (DCE's Kerberos-based services),
scaleability and interoperability (DCE's Remote Procedure
Calls (RPCs), and other related topics will also be discussed.

high level of shared components. You'll not only see a demo
