Linux International (LI) is sponsoring the formation of a "virtual"
network of local Linux user groups, called INLUX. INLUX has no
authority; it merely aims to do two things:
1. Provide a mechanism to help a new user locate the Linux users
geographically closest to him/her, whether they operate a group
already, or would like to create one.
2. Provide a channel whereby user group coordinators can talk
with each other sharing ideas, frustrations, seeking help, etc.
For those of you who can use World-Wide-Web (WWW) browsers
like Netscape or Mosaic, the Home-Page of Linux International,
http://www.li.org/linux-int
includes a growing list of Linux user groups around the world.
We also hope to develop FAQs offering helpful hints on running and
organizing chapters, and doing things like creating WWW home pages.
Volunteers are encouraged to apply. Entrepreneurs who are trying to
create products for Linux should realize that their support will help
establish venues for inexpensively demonstrating their wares in public.
We'd like to invite EVERYONE who helps operate a Linux user group,
however humble or informal, to coordinate with your user-group peers
and promptly submit an email entry to
inlux-chapters@li.org
An entry should ideally include the following details:
* user group name
* user group location (city, province, nation)
* contact person for the user group
* phone/fax number for the contact person (or the user group)
* email address for contact
* WWW page http address (if any)
* usual meeting times and location
These entries will be continuously combined into a retrievable list. Any
person who would like to locate the Linux user group nearest to him/her,
can retrieve the list and search through it. To retrieve the list, send
an email message to:
majordomo@li.org
with the words:
get inlux-chapters list
in the body of the message. The automated server will then reply.
We've also created a mailing list for user group coordinators. The list
is designed to provide a mechanism for coordinators to share experiences,
advice, suggestions and discuss various user group related topics. The
list is open to all - from experienced user group coordinators, to those
seeking collaborators to form a new user group. To subscribe to this
mailing list, send an email message to:
majordomo@li.org
with the words:
subscribe inlux-aid
in the body of the message.
Looking forward to hearing from you. And if you have any out-of-channel
feedback, feel free to reach us at:
inlux-feedback@li.org
Thank-you.
Regards
R.I.Feigenblatt and Patrick D'Cruze
