March 8, 2006

DSS is pleased to announce DACS version 1.4.11.

This is primarily a bug fix and minor enhancements release.

A new cross-federation identity transfer mechanism has been added.
It not only provides support for single sign-on among DACS federations,
but also between a DACS federation and other identity management systems.
See dacs_auth_transfer(8) for details.

The initial release of a web-based DACS administration interface called
FedAdmin will be made available shortly at Sourceforge's contributed resource
project for DACS. The DACS Java Library (DJL), which is being developed to
support the use of DACS in Java client applications, will also be updated.

DACS is security software - we urge all users to upgrade to the latest release.

DACS is:
o a powerful role-based access control system that can apply flexible
access control to virtually any web service request
o enhanced Apache authentication and authorization
  o federated-identity management (single sign-on)
o for script and application developers, able to provide fine-grained
access control functionality to almost any program or script
o for Java developers via the DACS Java library
o for middleware and web services developers
o for Unix-type platforms, such as Linux, FreeBSD, and Solaris

DACS 1.4.11 is released under dual licensing terms (a GPL-compatible open
source license and a commercial license).

DACS is hosted on SourceForge at http://sourceforge.net/projects/dacs
