Ftape version 2.02c is now available.
=====================================
A rather nasty race condition causing failure during retries - that
was in all the 2.0x versions - is fixed now.
If you're still using 1.14d because of the problems with an earlier
2.x version I suggest you give 2.02c a try.
You can find the latest ftape version on sunsite (or one of its
mirrors) in /pub/Linux/Incoming or /pub/Linux/kernel/tapes.
Some remarks:
Extended length (425 ft) tapes:
-------------------------------
A fix is included to detect these tapes. Since I don't have one,
this is still experimental.
Conner TSM850 owners:
---------------------
This version might also fix the problems with the Conner TSM 850 drives.
I've seen reports of one (id 156) working with ftape 2.02c.
If you still experience problems with your 850 make sure to report
the vendor-id. There are two different versions around: One with id
152, the other with id 156.
Bad tapes:
----------
There may still be some problems with the handling of tapes that
have bad sectors that are _not_ in the bad sector list.
Reformatting these should fix the problem.
Whining about ftape:
--------------------
Make sure to include version information on the driver and kernel.
(I'm getting lots of reports about `the latest' version of the
driver, referring to anything between 0.9.10 and 2.02)
When posting to a newsgroup or mailing list: If you want me to
read it, make sure you include the keyword `ftape' in the subject.
When sending me trace logs: Please compress and uuencode them
as I (and a lot of other people too) have to pay a lot for our
internet connect time.
Modules:
--------
Ftape now works with both types of modules.
Make sure to use the `insmod' patches provided with ftape or
it won't work and causes a segment violation!
---
Have fun,
Bas.
