Linux International is pleased to announce that it has started a
Vendor Assistance Program (VAP) to aid commercial software vendors
who wish to port their wares to Linux.
Purpose
-------
To facilitate porting of high-quality commercial software to Linux.
Our goal is not "Linux advocacy", but rather to help software vendors
by providing porting assistance and a straightforward, realistic
assessment of the Linux market.
Status
------
For now, this is a low-key program. We have no budget and we are
just starting out with our first few vendors; so we are primarily
planning to function as a clearinghouse for information and people,
so that we can connect software vendors with the help they need to
produce and market a successful Linux product.
Who should contact us
---------------------
1) Software Vendors/Developers/Resellers
If you have a product you'd like to port to Linux, let us know.
At present we can connect you with other Linux resources, give
you advice about the (emerging) Linux marketplace, and provide
technical porting help via Internet e-mail. If you need a higher
level of help than this, let us know what you are looking for and
we'll see what we can do. The VAP group is small, and we keep
vendor information confidential.
Preferred contact method for vendors:
Internet e-mail to <vap@li.org>
Postal address:

2) Volunteers
If you are interested in volunteering to help and advise vendors and
have significant experience porting major software packages to Linux
and other UNIX variants, please let us know. Useful technical areas
include makefiles, imake, and gcc; and typical include file, library
conflicts, svgalib, and DOS-to-Linux and MS Windows-to-X-Windows issues.
Legal and marketing expertise relating to software is also appreciated.
The contact point for volunteers is:
Internet e-mail to <vap-help@li.org>
