"Free and Open Source Software: Benefits & Challenges to Civil Society"

The Southern African Non-Governmental Organisation Network (SANGONeT) is
pleased to announce that the next Thetha will be held on 30 September 2003.
The theme of this Thetha will be "Free and Open Source Software: Benefits &
Challenges to Civil Society".
Speakers will introduce the concept of free and open source software (OSS),
discuss its relevance to civil society, and explore business and government
positions in this regard. A practical demonstration of OSS will also be held
during the meeting.
During the next few weeks SANGONeT will distribute information on OSS to
assist CSOs in preparing for this Thetha.
The Thetha will be held at the Parktonian Hotel, 120 De Korte Street,
Braamfontein (09h00-13h00).
Thetha - The SANGONeT ICT Discussion Forum series aims to focus specifically
on the ICT challenges facing the CSO sector, highlighting and promoting
practical benefits, opportunities and lessons learned to date.
The objectives of the Thetha series are the following:
- To highlight and promote the practical benefits and opportunities provided
by ICTs to Southern African CSOs;
- To provide Southern African CSOs with an opportunity to reflect on the
impact of ICTs on their work and to share lessons and experiences of common
concern.
Thetha is a Nguni verb meaning let's talk, discuss, debate, share opinions
and engage each other.
