"The most unfortunate thing is that India still seems to believe in
proprietary solutions. Further spread of IT which is influencing the
daily life of individuals would have a devastating effect on the lives
of society due to any small shift in the business practice involving
these proprietory solutions. It is precisely for these reasons open
source software need to be built which would be cost effective for the
entire society. In India, open source code software will have to come
and stay in a big way for the benefit of our billion people."

-- Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, President of India, May 28, 2003

Subject: Linux - Veritas - EMC question about device file? anyone?
Date: 23 Jul 2003 21:30:01 GMT

Hello all -

I have 2 linux boxes with fiber connecting to my SAN box at each site.
On each server I have veritas f/s running. Now, when I promote my
LUNS from HOST (A) to the HOST (B) server for the very first time, it
fails as they were never the primary LUNS for host(B) and the device
file system never knows about them. But when I reboot my box host(B),
i can import the disk group onto the host (B). At the same time when
i move them back to HOST (A) box I can mount them and the if you
reverse the same on the HOST (A), i wil be able to mount the disk
group belonging to HOST(B) to HOST(A).

NOw, if i ""reboot"" HOST(A), then I CANNOT mount the HOST(B) disk
group, even after running "xvdctl enable" command. This is because it
does not see the device file for the disk group which belong to
HOST(B). As long as it the primary disk group to the HOST is fine.
Until, I reboot the server and the device file system is rebuilt then
I will be able to mount it.

CAn someone tell me what command I can run to scan all the devices OR
not to remove my devices wich are not attached! It seems that each
time my machine reboot and the devices are not listed, it will reove
those device file. Does anyone have any idea to prevent my device
files i.e. /dev dir not to change!

Any help will be helpful!
hallian

Meeting: 17th August 2003
Website: http://gllug.org.uk/meeting-20030815.html

The Greater London Linux User Group is having our second annual
summer picnic.

That's right, for the second year running, we will be meeting up at
Bletchley Park for a picnic at a genuine site of computer history. The
meeting is on Sunday 17th August 2003, and we'll be meeting up at the
entrance to the site between 12 noon and 1pm. We don't have a fixed
end time, but the park closes at 6pm. This is meant to be a picnic, so
feel free to bring food along - alternatively, there are places on-site to
get decent food. This weekend is a special event at Bletchey Park,
called "Wireless Waves around Bletchley", celebrating the importance
of the radio service to the code-cracking work done at Bletchley.

More information about the site, travel and the special event can be
found at their web site http://www.bletchleypark.org.uk.

Admission

Admission to the park is £ 9 at the door, £ 6 if you book online in
advance.

Travel

By car: A map can be found on the website. Parking at Bletchley Park
costs £ 5 per vehicle.

By train: Silverlink Train Services, get off at Bletchley. Follow
either the footpath to the entrance or take Buckingham Rd. east
to Church Green Rd. Then take a right tell Wilton Ave. At the
nd of Wilton Ave. is the entrance to Bletchley park.

Fare: £ 13.40 standard 'Cheap Day Away' from Euston, £ 8.85 for
'Young Person Railcard'.

Infomation taken from www.nationalrail.co.uk on 22 July 2003. Tickets
can be bought in advance from that site. Time tables can also be
found on the site.

Subject: Bogofilter-0.14.0.1 - New Current Release
Date: 24 Jul 2003 03:15:00 GMT

Bogofilter is a mail filter that classifies mail as spam or ham (non-spam)
by a statistical analysis of the message's header and content (body). The
program is able to learn from the user's classifications and corrections.

The statistical technique is known as the Bayesian technique and its use
for spam was described by Paul Graham in his article "A Plan For
Spam". Gary Robinson, in his weblog Rants, suggests some refinements for
improved discrimination between spam and ham. Bogofilter's primary
algorithm uses the f(w) parameter and the Fisher inverse chi-square
technique that he describes.

Bogofilter is run by an MDA script to classify an incoming message as spam
or ham (using wordlists stored by BerkeleyDB). Bogofilter provides
processing for plain text and html, supports multi-part mime message with
decoding of base64, quoted-printable, and uuencoded text and ignores
attachments, such as images.

Bogofilter is written in C. Supported platforms: Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris,
OS X, HP-UX, AIX, ...

******* ******* ******* ******* *******

Bogofilter version 0.14.0.1 has been released on SourceForge,
http://sourceforge.net/projects/bogofilter.

0.14.0.1 - Fixes several minor bugs in 0.14.0.

0.14.0 - Provides support for a single, combined wordlist (named
wordlist.db) which holds both spam and ham tokens and which provides
improved performance (speed). This release also supports for the Trivial
DB package (tdb) as an alternative to the BerkeleyDB.

Parsing improvements include decoding of encoded tokens in message headers
(cf. RFC-2047).

See files NEWS-0.14 and RELEASE.NOTES-0.14 for the details.

0.14.0 2003-07-22

combined BerkeleyDB database for storing both ham and spam tokens.
   The file is named wordlist.db
* Default wordlist mode is single, combined wordlist.
