Subject: LILO version 22.5.1 released
Reply-To: Read@MY.fullname.FOR.reply.TO
LILO release 22.5.1 is based upon Werner Almesberger's LILO version 21.
Version 22.5.1 is a minor update to version 22.5
o Writearounds are included for two BIOS bugs which could kill 22.5:
- Video BIOS destroy's DX register
- BIOS does not pass boot device code in DL
o Boot sector backups are handled in a more consistent fashion.
o Optional configuration file keywords are added: master-boot, boot-as=,
raid-extra-boot=mbr, bios-passes-dl= (or -Z switch).
Version 22.5 is a major update to version 22.4.1
o Booting is based upon industry-standard volume labels (s/n), which are
translated to BIOS device codes. Changes in the disk configuration
which cause the BIOS to assign device codes in a different order should
be transparent to the user.
o 256-color bitmap boot screens are now supported using VESA video BIOS
extensions. Both RGB and RLE encoded *.bmp files are supported.
Version 22.4.1 is a minor update to version 22.4.
Version 22.4 is a minor update to version 22.3.
o Virtual booting is supported with new keywords 'vmdefault', 'vmdisable',
and 'vmwarn'.
Version 22.3 is a major update to version 22.2.
o The distribution consists of /sbin/lilo ONLY; all *.b files are
incorporated within this file (builtin).
o A bitmap file header editor is incorporated (-E flag).
o The map file unifies the second stage, chain, message file, and bitmap
files.
o -E, -F, and -B flags are added (see man pages).
o Chain loader will now pass a command line to a second LILO installation.
o Boot protocol 0203h is now supported. "large-memory" option added to
force initial ramdisk loading to highest memory.
o "vga=" on command line allows any radix input.
Versions 22.2, 22.1, 22.0 are major updates to version 21.
*** THE VERSION 22 RAID1 IMPLEMENTATION IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH VERSION 21.
Those using version 21 should read 'README.raid1' before installing these
new codes. There is a compatibility mode (lilo -x mbr-only) for existing
RAID1 installations which are not going to be converted to the Version 22
implementation.
Source code is available for download from:
http://brun.dyndns.org/pub/linux/lilo (developer's site)
Or from the main distribution site:
ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/boot/lilo (please use)
See the distribution file 'CHANGES' for details of the differences between
22.5.1 and prior releases.

Subject: CGIpaf 1.3.0pre2 (unstable) released
Date: Mon, 31 Mar 2003 05:26:13 CST
* What is CGIpaf?
"cgipaf" allows users to change their un*x Password, Autoreply and
mail Forwarding by a web interface.
CGIpaf 1.3.0pre2 is the latest "development" release.
CGIpaf 1.3.0pre2 is available at http://staf.patat.org/develop/
* Requirements
o a Un*x server
o a mailserver that uses procmail
( vacation is supported by an external perl mailcfg script )
o webserver
o gcc, ndbm or gdbm
* License
GNU General Public License.
* Changelog
* version 1.3.0pre2 ( 31 Mar 2003 )
+ NetBSD support
+ BUGFIX: 1.3.0pre1 didn't compile on FreeBSD
+ merged from CGIpaf 1.2.1
- example in Brazilian Portuguese added
( Thanks to Fabricio Machado )
- improved forward_to emailaddress testing
- added test for mail headers like 'Precedence: bulk' to avoid
replying to maillinglists etc.
- code cleanup
* version 1.3.0pre1 ( 2 Jan 2003 )
+ linuxconf virtual mail password files supported added
* Overview
cgipaf is a combination of three cgi programs:
+ passwd.cgi : allows users to update their password
+ viewmailcfg.cgi : allows users to view their current mail
configuration.
+ mailcfg.cgi : update the mail configuration
o All programs use PAM for user authentication, systems without PAM
are only supported if they use the standard password file location
(/etc/passwd ,/etc/shadow) and the standard crypt or md5 passwords.
o If a password is changed it is possible to run a script to update
SAMBA passwords, NIS configuration, etc.
o The mail configuration is done by procmail, mailcfg.cgi creates a
.procmailrc in the user's home directory. If autoreply is enabled
the autoreply message is stored in ~/vacations.txt. When a user
enables mail forwarding the user can choose to keep the messages.
o For user authentication viewmailcfg.cgi creates a cookie, this
cookie is stored in the accessdb. mailcfg.cgi reads the cookie out
the accessdb and compares it with the cookie send by the users
browser.
o User with too many invalid logins can be locked.
o The minimum and maximum uid can be set in the configuration file,
so you can specify a range of uid's that are allowed to use
cgipasswd.
o You can specify html files with a few PHP extensions for the login
screen and error messages.
o It's possible to use a redirect for the error messages, instead of
plain html files.
o It's is possible to define an external script to update the the
mail configuration to support other mail configurations than
procmail a sample script with vacation support is included.
o CGIpaf also contains the "changepass" utility which is basically a
clone of the chpasswd(8) Linux command, it might be useful on
platforms that doesn't have such a command like Solaris.

Subject: INDIA-BELGAUM: Day 1 - GNUBeLUg '03 (fwd)
This note is a somewhat delayed report from Ashutosh Naik
<a7ash@yahoo.com> in Belgaum... Our ILUG-Goa team of eight just returned
late last night from Belgaum (150 kms away), after a very interesting
visit there. FN
========== Forwarded message ==========
Day 1 of GNUBeLUG was full of action. Remember, It was
the first major event organised by ilug-belgaum.
To begin with, the principal of GIT, Dr. D H Rao
inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp. This
was a really good way of starting the function because
with one light, U can light another.. And that's the
way the spirit of Free Software multiplies.
The trend during the day was the GNu philosophy..
People were shocked to know that propreitory companies
had taken their freedom for granted, And most
definitely agreed that GNU/Linux was altleast worth a
try..The Principles of Free, Open Source and
Propreitory software were argued till length
After the talk on GNU principles by myself, We had a
brief Installation seesion, A talk on GNU/Linux in
daily life by Gurpreet Singh, And finally a talk on
Hacking Kernel Modules by a true hacker, Rahul Iyer.
There were also loads of everyday questions answered
by the panelists which included myself, Rohan, Bhaskar
Ghose, Gurpreet Singh and Sanket Patil. Most of these
questions were on switching to GNU/Linux and the
configuration issues involved
Finally the meet ended with a demo of the Indlinux v
0.37 project and a demo of Knoppix
We do look forward to your company tommorrow.. which
promises to be more action-packed as compared to today
Tomm's Attractions :
- Embedded Linux by Trevor Warren
- Setting Up GNU/Linux as a WebServer - Dr. Bhat
- GNU/Linux on the desktop - Arvind yadav
- GNU/Linux in India - Frederick Noronha
- Panel Discussions
And much more
You surely dont want to miss it !!
