Subject: [New Project] BlackSuit GNU/Linux

Hi, all.

I have started new project which I called BlackSuit GNU/Linux. As you guess,
this is GNU/Linux's distribution, for now it is at 'planing' state.
Main reason of creating is write new packaging system, because I'm not
satisfied debian's packages and rpm, too.
Now I'm writing specification for development of BlackSuit GNU/Linux, I
have some ideas about it, but ideas of someone else, will be better.

If somebody interested in this project, details I'll send by email, and
with me you can contact by my email.

Cheers,
Sergei Kononov

Subject: LINK: Open domain software meet

http://salis.ece.iisc.ernet.in/workshop/

Open Domain Software Movement has gained momentum in recent years. Open
software is increasingly viewed as a panacea to the digital divide and a
means of providing cost effective e-governance.

Many countries are ready to exploit the benefits of Open Source software
by framing policies encouraging the use of open source
software wherever possible. Open software are usually copyrighted or
copylefted. While they are generally freely distributable,
there are certain redistribution and reusability guidelines that require
the attention of every user of that software.

India is not only a software user but also a major player in the
proprietary software industry. The Ministry of Communication &
Information Technology (MCIT), Government of India, acknowledges the
complexities of using open source copyrighted software in terms of its use
for e-governance and digital divide, including policies, Intellectual
Property issues and the technical and economical viability of using Open
source software in the Indian context.

In its attempt to provide information and gain better insight into these
issues, the MICT, Electronic Research and Development Centre of India
(ER&DCI) Thiruvananthapuram and Indian Institute of Science
(IISc) Bangalore together are hosting a workshop on 7th and 8th November,
2002 at ER&DCI, Thiruvananthapuram. The workshop would attempt to expose
the nuances of policy framing, software protection and licensing and
consequently the issues related to the use of the open software by end
users and developers.

The two day workshop addresses the following broad concerns:

Open Domain software and the digital divide
                 Intellectual Property and Patenting
Software and Licensing Information System (SALIS)

The workshop is targeted towards the following audience:

o SMEs in software development using open source and proprietary software
o Software Developers
o Strategic decision makers and CTOs of IT organizations involved in
  software product design
o Legal experts in State IT organizations dealing with
  software licensing and enforcement issues

Subject: ANN: glib-man 2.0.1.23: glib man pages

Did you ever wonder why there are no man pages for glib?
Did you notice that the glib html doc does not tell you all?
Did that hurt the speed and quality of your developments?

Well, no need to feel sad anymore, I did want man pages and so I did start
a project creating new documentation based on a code review of glib 2.0.1.
You can download your copy of glib-man RPMs today. It contains currently
10 out of 48 parts but it is helpful to me and hopefully to you as well.

http://osdn.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/freespace/glib-man-2.0.1.23-1.i586.rpm

p.s. to rebuild the src.rpm or tar.gz, you'd need "xmlto" (and xslt-proc)
to convert the docbook master into its series of manual page

Subject: RERO 0.0.0 - An automated release manager
From: "Michael L. Brownlow" <mike@wsmake.org>

RERO - Release Early Release Often

RERO is a release automation tool. The goals of RERO are to use
existing technologies to allow for releases to happen based on a few
rules without requiring developer intervention (except for maintaining
the rules). Currently RERO is focusing on releasing itself (and
releasing early for feedback). RERO is making some progress if it is
able to send this message to to c.o.l.a. Please note that future
versions may or may not send to c.o.l.a. See the website to know for
sure about any new minor releases:

Hi,

I have started a survey of applications and conversion tools
between a conventional PDA operating system (only PalmOS yet,
WinCE and Epoc will follow hopefully) and a Linux PDA (COMPAQ
iPAQ, SHARP SL-5500 Zaurus, Samsung YOPY) at
