Subject: DRC - Digital Room Correction 1.3.0
Date: 7 Jul 2002 06:40:04 GMT

DRC generates digital room correction FIR filters to be used within
HiFi systems in conjunction with real time convolution engines like
BruteFIR.

Changes from version 1.2.1: More flexible prefiltering curve
parameters, a new time varying sliding lowpass prefiltering stage, a
new minimum phase or homomorphic renormalization of the prefiltered
excess phase component, homomorphic deconvolution based on the Hilbert
transform instead of the cepstrum method, slightly improved
documentation, and many minor bugfixes.

From: Conrad Parker <conrad.parker@auug.org.au>
Subject: 4th Australian Open Source Symposium, Sydney July 20 2002
Date: 7 Jul 2002 06:40:08 GMT

Registrations are now open for the fourth Australian Open Source Symposium
(AOSS 4), to be held at UNSW, Sydney on Saturday July 20, 2002. AOSS is an
annual gathering of the Australian Open Source community.

        http://www.auug.org.au/aoss/aoss4/index.html

The Australian Unix Users Group (AUUG Inc.) is proud to announce the
programme for this symposium, including the following presentations:

Erik de Castro Lopo: The libsndfile test suite.

Erik will talk about the ideas behind, the implications of and the
implementation of libsndfile's test suite as well as giving a very
    brief introduction to autogen.

  Matt Chapman: rdesktop

rdesktop is an open source client for Windows Terminal Services,
capable of speaking Microsoft's proprietary Remote Desktop Protocol.

Lucy Chubb, Gelato project: Large page support in the Linux kernel

The IA64 hardware currently provides support for page sizes of up to
256MB, but there is limited support to use any of this capability
within Linux. Lucy will talk about the work in progress within the UNSW
Gelato project to implement superpages in IA64 Linux.

  Peter Chubb: Bitkeeper

Come and find out what Peter Chubb means by his current sig, "You are
lost in a maze of BitKeeper repositories, all almost the same.", as he
talks his experience with BitKeeper as he works on the Linux source code.

  Duraid Madina: SwapBox

SwapBox is a network-attached storage device optimized to act as high
    performance swap space.

  Leni Mayo: Serel

Serel adds synchronisation and integrity-checking to the operating
system "service startup" phase, allowing a computer's services to
start in parallel. Without parallelism, "service startup" is typically
the most time-consuming part of the boot process.

  Peter Miller: Testing? What testing?

This talk presents a simplistic yet powerful model of what a test is.
When you intend to test your software, you have to design your software
to be testABLE. The talk will examine attributes of software implied
by this model. Some examples of automated testing will be given.

  Martin Pool, HP: distcc

distcc is a program which speeds up software builds by distributing
    the build across multiple machines.

  Martin Schwenke: Big Blue Penguins

IBM and open source sound like non-overlapping spaces. Martin works
with IBM's Linux Technology Center in Canberra and tells us what it's
    like inside.

Liam Widdowson: The tdb Replication System

The Trivial Database Replication System is an open source database
engine that allows UNIX systems to utilise a distributed, replicated,
    peer-to-peer DBM style database.

From: news@gnupdate.org
Subject: libcomprex v0.3.2 released
Date: 7 Jul 2002 06:40:18 GMT

libcomprex v0.3.2 has been released.

The libcomprex library transparently handles automatic compression
and decompression of files. The API is similar to C's built-in file
access functions, which provides a smooth transition to libcomprex.
libcomprex can also open uncompressed files, making it a good
replacement for the native file access functions.

The highlights for this release include:

    * Fixed a bug where an archive's file pointer was getting destroyed
      too early.
    * Fixed bugs when "." and ".." start the path name of some files.
    * Fixed a bug when filenames in an ar archive don't have a trailing '/'.
    * Merged the CxFile and CxDirectory structures into CxFsNode. CxFile
and CxDirectory are now typedefs, and can be used as normal.
    * Fixed a bug in directory searching where only one directory in a
      list was matched.
    * Fixed a segfault by removing the on-exit code.
    * Merged CxDirectory and CxFile into CxFsNode, and created typedef
      aliases.
    * Added file seeking in the ar and tar modules.
    * Added out of memory checking. Thanks Jason Willis!
    * Added the beginnings of a directory and file iterator interface.
    * Added gettext support.
    * Added a Dutch translation. Thanks Bert De Meyer!

From: Hal Burgiss <hburgiss@bellsouth.net>
Subject: Multi Gnome Terminal 1.5.1
Date: 7 Jul 2002 06:40:24 GMT
Reply-To: Hal Burgiss <hal@foobox.net>

Multi Gnome Terminal 1.5.1

Multi Gnome Terminal is an enhanced version of gnome-terminal, with
many powerful new features and extensions. The most notable
enhancement is the ability to run multiple terminals within the same
window. Each terminal may be accessed by it's "Tab", through keyboard
shortcuts, or menu selections. Non-active terminals alert that the
buffer has changed, or is changing, with color changes on the Tab
labels. Other enhancements: toolbar; buttonbar; flexible Command
options to launch new terminals, tabs and shells from either the GUI
or command line; customizable key bindings for MGT functions and other
uses; shading and tinting; improved Class handling; font shadowing;
the ability to "split" terminals so that each Window can have multiple
terminals; terminals may be "viewed" or "bonded" with other terminals;
and various other improvements.

Changes: MGT now includes a shell script (mgt-helper) that adds
additional functionality. Notably, you can now have separate bash
histories for each Tab, and you can use mgt-helper as a GNOME URL
Handler to launch text based applications in a new Tab. Also, several
new Actions are available for keybindings, and logging out of a
gnome-session can now save the current MGT Windows, Tabs, paths, and
commands. A number of bugs are also fixed in this release.

Bugs fixed:

A lot of bugs have been fixed, the main ones are:

* removing a class all MGT windows whose class is removed one
  didn't switch to default class
* 'Disable All Keybindings' option sometime was wrongly set.
* MGT had several memory leaks.
* Commands were not saved pressing 'ok' or 'apply'
* MGT transparent background wasn't updated sometime (especially
  in Enlightment)
* When one pastes text to a terminal that is bonded with other
ones, the paste only occurs in the currently active terminal.
* Background image height was always equal to its width.
* Various other minor things fixed.

From: news@gnupdate.org
Subject: leakbug v0.1.5 released
Date: 7 Jul 2002 06:40:01 GMT

leakbug v0.1.5 has been released.

Leakbug is a memory leak tracer library, which checks for leaks within the
calling program, and ignores leaks in the libraries linked to the program. This
makes it easier to track down leaks that are the developer's fault. Leakbug is
very useful for tracing leaks when developing custom libraries.

The highlights for this release include:

        * Added logfile support through the LB_LOGFILE environment variable.
        * Internal restructuring.

Subject: DAR - Disk Archive 1.1.0
Date: 7 Jul 2002 06:45:08 GMT

DAR's second major release is now available.

http://dar.linux.free.fr/

Dar is a GPL backup software for Linux. It is able to split the archive
it produces into several files (called "slices") of given size, use
compression, take care of hard links, save and restore Extended
Attributes (EA) (and Access Control List (ACL) when they are implemented
over EA), make differential or full backup, fastly recover a given file
from a huge archive. Dar is designed to support as large slice as
available for the filesystem+kernel it is running on and as much slice
as filesystem permits.

new features brought by version 1.1.0:
- Extended Attributes support
- hard link support
- integrity test
- archive comparison with filesystem
- restore only file that are not more recent than those on filesystem
- extracting the "catalogue" (=archive index) from an existing archive
to a small file
- changing the slice size of an existing archive

From: hdholm@epoch.ncsc.mil (Howard Holm)
Subject: SECURITY: NSA Security-enhanced Linux updated
Date: 7 Jul 2002 06:45:11 GMT

The SELinux web site <http://www.nsa.gov/selinux/> including the mail
list archive has been updated. The site includes a new release of the
LSM-based SELinux prototype. The stable (2.4) LSM-based SELinux
prototype remains at kernel 2.4.18. The development (2.5) LSM-based
SELinux prototype was updated to kernel 2.5.24. The OpenSSH patch has
been updated to openssh-3.4p1. The file system labeling support has
been generalized and labeling for kernel-generated IGMP and ICMP
traffic has been added. Many improvements have been made in the policy
including making many policy sections optional, changing the audit
configuration syntax, adding explicit type attribute declarations, and
merging many contributed domains and policy changes. The technical
report describing configuration of the policy has also been updated.

Security-enhanced Linux incorporates a strong, flexible mandatory
access control architecture into the major subsystems of the Linux
kernel. The system provides a mechanism to enforce the separation of
information based on confidentiality and integrity requirements. This
allows threats of tampering and bypassing of application security
mechanisms to be addressed and enables the confinement of damage that
can be caused by malicious or flawed applications. The SELinux web
site <http://www.nsa.gov/selinux/> contains background information,
documentation, source code, and archives for the selinux mailing-list.

From: Stipe Tolj <tolj@wapme-systems.de>
Subject: [ANNOUNCE] Kannel 1.2.0 - update to stable version
Date: 7 Jul 2002 06:45:14 GMT

NEWS about Kannel: Open Source WAP and SMS Gateway version 1.2.0

This is a STABLE version. It should be usable for production systems.
Please do report problems to devel@kannel.3glab.org (the development
mailing list). The bug tracking system is currently offline.

Changes since version 1.1.6:

Compatibility breakers:

 * configure now uses the --enable-localtime as default. This will log
file stamps in local time, not GMT. Beware if you need other
timezone
date logging to switch this off.

 * configure now uses the --with-malloc=native as default. This is
more
suitable for production environments then the limited malloc
checking
   counterpart.

 * Use the 'to' HTTP GET variable to specify the destination MSISDN of
outbound messages for both sendsms and sendota HTTP interfaces.

 * wapbox does not any longer start a PPG HTTP server thread if no ppg
group is specified in the configuration file.

New features:

 * Harmonized logging output for EMI2 and SMPP module.

 * Added on-the-fly shutdown and re-start for specific smsc-ids via
the
administrative HTTP interface URIs 'stop-smsc' and 'start-smsc'.

 * Added traffic statistics of inbound and output SMS on the status
page.

 * Added 'interface-version' config directive for SMPP module.

 * Added timing configuration directives for SMPP module to specify
   reconnect delays and timeout values.

 * Added alternative DCS support for SMPP module to define alternative
DCS
   value via sendsms's alt-dcs flag.

 * Added support for XML POSTs of SMS messages on the basis of the
IETF
   draft
http://search.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-koponen-sms-xml-03.txt.

 * Added transceiver mode for SMPP links.

 * Added wapbox directive 'smart-errors' for smarter WSP error
messages to
   the handset device.

 * Added wapbox directive 'force-sar' for forced processing of
segmentation
   and reassembly (WTP-SAR) packages.

Bugfixes:

 * Fixed compiler warning for gcc 3.x for compiler macros.

 * Fixed a couple of memory leaks in various modules.

 * Improved the output of the status page and fixed the status
condition
if an SMPP link is only used as receiver.

 * Fixed validity issues in the SMPP module.

 * Fixed a possible segv bug in SSL connection opening call.

 * Fixed handling of application ids in the PPG module.

 * Implemented a queue limit for outbound messages. This should hold
up the
situation that there are infinitely more messages injected to the
queue
then there are outflowing to the SMSC connections.

 * Further improvements in the AT2 module.

 * Fixed some MySQL related problems while processing DLRs to
databases.

I`m selling copies of Linux in the UK for £2.50 per CD or less, depending on
how many you order. As an example, I charge £6.75 for Mandrake 8.2,
including delivery by first class post. I will also discuss pricing for
large orders - email me if you want to order a lot of CD`s and we`ll come to
a deal.

I take payment by NoChex, cheque or postal order. For international orders,
please email me to confirm postage costs - I can also accept PayPal
payments.

For full details of what distributions I am selling, along with a full price
list and details on how to pay, visit my site:

If this posting is against the newsgroup charter, please email me off the
group and I`ll make sure I don`t post here again.

Thank you for your time.
