This is the weekly announcement of GNU Korea, doing best for the
free software in Korea.

(Çѱ¹¾î´Â ¾Æ·¡¿¡ ÀÖ½À´Ï´Ù. For Korean, see below)

What we did:

21 May 2002
Jung-Hoon Lee, the representative of GNU Korea made a speech at
        Sangmyung University <http://www.sangmyung.ac.kr/> to the
students of Software Engineering with the subject of
        "GNU as our Future."

28 May 2002
Jung-Hoon Lee, the representative of GNU Korea made a speech and
seminar with the subject of "GNU as our Future" at the 'Next
Generation IT Industry activation Seminar 2002' held by
Korea Association of Information & Telecommunication
<http://www.kait.or.kr/>. It was done at Central City Hotel at
        Gangnam, Seoul, Korea.

28 May 2002
For the sound and solid growth of free software, GNU Korea works
together with "Open Software Forum" which aims lifting the
competitiveness of domestic software industry and manpower by
finding, deploying, and reusing open software. For the philosophical
direction and guide lines of GNU Korea, please read "Free software
        Entropy <http://korea.gnu.org/journal/freesoftware_entropy.html>"
(in Korean language) and "Why ``Free Software'' is better than
        ``Open Source''
        (in English).

4 June 2002
GNU Korea joins "Working Group for Open Source Software Activation"
made for drafting and making policy of 'Korea IT Industry Promotion
Agency' <http://www.software.or.kr/> under the control of Korean
        Government.

5 June 2002
        LinuxMagazine <http://www.linux-magazine.co.kr/>, issued monthly,
decided to make a exclusive and private section for GNU Korea from
July 2002. This section will be used to introduce the wholly
free softwares. GNU Korea currently have one more exclusive
section on Microsoftware (issued monthly) used for Brave GNU World
(in Korean Language) and some philosophical writings. (PS: Monthly
magazine Microsoftware has nothing related with Microsoft Korea.)

Comming Event(s)

7 June 2002
Jam Lee, the staff of GNU Korea is going to make a speech and
seminar at Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute

Oz Insight is announcing release of Ozway – its binary enhanced News-to-Web
gateway.

Ozway is designed to provide a WYSIWYG access to Usenet binary groups
carrying images (though it can be used with other newsgroups as well) by
offering image thumbnails to users for preview. Users can see what they are
about to download and thus avoid downloading unwanted material and improve
dramatically the value received for time and money, and their satisfaction
with the service.

Ozway is easy to use (point and click) and easy to run (start and forget).
It is a fast and scalable application capable of supporting hundreds of
simultaneous connections from users.

The main value of Ozway to ISPs is a high quality interface to their news
server that Ozway can provide. Now every ISP can offer a high quality
service before available only from a few commercial companies specializing
in the Usenet area.

We hope that Ozway can help you to introduce your users to the Usenet, make
the Usenet fun and popular among your users. This may help you to achieve
huge savings in external traffic because if your users start downloading
binaries from your local news server, they won’t use your external Web link
that much. There are lots of binary goodies posted in newsgroups. And it is
amazing how few people know about the Usenet and use it.

It takes only 10 minutes to install and configure Ozway. It runs as a
separate HTTP daemon and is just another client to your news server. So, it
will not disrupt work of your news server or do nasty things to your Web
server.

Ozway has a built-in cache, so, it can be used to take part of the load off
your news server. Also, if you don’t have a news server and are outsourcing
news service, you can use Ozway as an on-site cache.

To read more about Ozway, please visit this page:

http://www.ozinsight.com/ozway/index.php

We are interested in Ozway reaching end users ASAP. This is why we are
offering free licenses to ISPs who start using Ozway soon. The early
starters program is open till the end of June. Please read more here:

http://www.ozinsight.com/ozway/start.html

There are versions available for Linux 7.1 or later, FreeBSD 4.3 or later
and Win2K/NT.

From: Stelian Pop <stelian@popies.net>
Subject: Dump/restore 0.4b29 released
Date: Sun, 9 Jun 2002 23:02:12 CST
Reply-To: Stelian Pop <stelian@popies.net>

Hello everyone,

A new version of dump/restore, the ext2/ext3 Linux filesystem
backup utilities, has been released today.

This new release has several miscelaneous fixes and enhancements,
as per the changelog for details, appended below.

The dump/restore homepage is located at:
        http://dump.sourceforge.net

Enjoy,

Stelian.

Changes between versions 0.4b28 and 0.4b29 (released June 8, 2002)
==================================================================

1. Fixed a problem in the rmt ioctl command, where ioctl's issued from
non Linux clients were misinterpreted. The description of the problem
(incompatible numbering in Linux mtio opcodes) is documented at
        ftp://ftp.fokus.gmd.de/pub/unix/star/README.mtio . Thanks to
Jörg Schilling <schilling@fokus.gmd.de> for reporting this bug and
providing an excellent, cross-platform replacement for rmt in his
        star package.

2. Fixed a bug reported by Andy Mentges <amentges@jumpline.com>
which caused restore to fail when the inode maps were not entirely
contained on the first volume (when using really small volumes or
when dumping a huge number of inodes).

3. Fixed a problem in dump, where files in subdirectories of directories
that have the nodump flag set (or being excluded with -e/-E) were
sometimes incorrectly dumped (instead of being excluded). The original
fix is from David C Lawrence <tale@dd.org> in the FreeBSD version
        of dump: http://www.FreeBSD.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=32414
Thanks to Ted Grzesik <tedgyz@roostme.com> for reporting the bug and
        help testing the patch.

4. Added some example scripts from Gerd Bavendiek <bav@epost.de>
which makes one able to pipe the output of dump, by the net, to
        a remote CD-burner server.

5. Made dump use O_CREAT|O_TRUNC both locally and remotely (over rmt),
and use GNU's symbolic syntax over rmt instead of numerical values
        to assure multiple platform compatibility.

6. Documented the -d option in restore.

7. Added a -v (verbose) mode to dump. For now it just prints the number
of the inode being dumped, but this could evolve in future versions
        to include interesting debugging output.

8. Added a -o flag to restore, which automatically restores the current
directory permissions in -i or -x mode, without asking the operator
whether to do so. Patch submitted by Tony Clayton <tonyc@e-smith.com>
        and Peter Samuel <peters@e-smith.com>.

Bifrost, Firewalling made easy

Bifrost is a firewall management interface to iptables.

The system is inspired by Checkpoint and Watchguard firewall management.
We looked at the way Checkpoint works with source, destination, action
and logging. At the same time, we work with incoming and outgoing
traffic in a similar way as Watchguard and PIX Firewalls.

Please have a look at our static demo site

Date: Sun, 9 Jun 2002 23:02:21 CST

"cgipaf" allows users to change their un*x Password, Autoreply and mail
Forwarding by a web interface.

CGIpaf 1.0.1 is the latest stable version of CGIpaf

cgipaf 1.0.1 is available at
       http://stafwag.netfirms.com/cgipaf/
mirror http://stafwag.pws.the-ecorp.com/cgipaf/

debian ( woody ) packages are available at
       http://stafwag.pws.the-ecorp.com/debian/

REQUIREMENTS

 + a Un*x server
+ a mailserver that uses procmail
 + webserver
 + gcc, ndbm or gdbm

OVERVIEW

cgipaf is a combination of three CGI programs. passwd.cgi, which allow
users to update their password, viewmailcfg.cgi, which allows users to
view their current mail configuration, and mailcfg.cgi, which updates
the mail configuration. All programs use PAM for user authentication. It
is possible to run a script to update SAMBA passwords or NIS
configuration when a password is changed. mailcfg.cgi creates a
.procmailrc in the user's home directory. A user with too many invalid
logins can be locked. The minimum and maximum UID can be set in the
configuration file, so you can specify a range of UIDs that are allowed
to use cgipaf.
