Subject: =?iso-8859-1?Q?Announcement!_New_software_released_-_binary_enhanced_News?=
Date: Sun, 2 Jun 2002 20:57:23 CST
Oz Insight is announcing release of Ozway - its binary enhanced News-to-Web
gateway.
Ozway is designed to provide a WYSIWYG access to Usenet binary groups
carrying images (though it can be used with other newsgroups as well). It is
a fast and scalable application capable of supporting hundreds of
simultaneous connections from users.
The main value of Ozway to ISPs is an easy and joyful interface to their
news server that Ozway can provide. We hope that Ozway can help you to
introduce your users to the Usenet, make the Usenet fun and popular among
your users. This may help you to achieve huge savings in external traffic
because if your users start downloading binaries from your local news
server, they won't use your external Web link that much! There are lots of
binary goodies posted in newsgroups! And it is amazing how few people know
about the Usenet and use it.
It takes only 10 minutes to install and configure Ozway. It runs as a
separate HTTP daemon and is just another client to your news server. So, it
will not disrupt work of your news server or do nasty things to your Web
server.
Ozway has a built-in cache, so, it can be used to take part of the load off
your news server. Also, if you don't have a news server and outsourcing news
service, you can use Ozway as an on-site cache.
To read more about Ozway, please visit this page:
http://www.ozinsight.com/ozway/index.php
We are interested in Ozway reaching end users ASAP. This is why we are
offering free licenses to ISPs who start using Ozway soon. Please read more
here:
http://www.ozinsight.com/ozway/start.html
There are versions available for Linux 7.1 or later, FreeBSD 4.3 or later
and Win2K/NT.

Kennesaw State University
1000 Chastain Rd., Kennesaw, GA 30144
Burruss Building Room 369
--------------------------------------------------------------
THIS MONTH:
Topic: Installation of SuSE 7.3 DVD Versiopes, Redirectors,
and File Descriptors, Oh My!
Speaker: David Jackson
David will be presenting a "Bash Bootcamp" especially oriented toward
newer users who are trying to grok the commandline for the first time.
General topics will include the Basics, Customizing Your Environment,
and Basic Shell Scripting with Bash. Along the way, we'll cover special
characters, flow control, positional variables, command substitution,
testing conditions and exit status, bash math, pattern matching, here
documents, tab completion, how to use your history file, and whatever
else we can squeeze in!
David Jackson has been using Linux since early 1995, Slackware 2.2 and
Linux 1.2.x. Shortly thereafter, David started using Linux for nearly
everything and rarely ever booted to anything Microsoft. David's first
and only book (so far), _Special Edition, Using SGML_ from Que Macmillan
(co-written with Martin Colby), arrived from the publisher on the same
day that his baby daughter arrived in the world. Nowadays, he lives the
quiet life at home, raising his daughter and writing computer-related
articles for _ComputorEdge_ magazine (the "I Don't Do Windows" column),
and riding his Harley on lonely Georgia back roads.

THIS MONTH:
Topic: Practical Tutorial on Linux DVD Ripping
Speaker: K. S. Wehr ("Eater")
A practical tuturial will be given on Linux DVD ripping
using the transcode video stream processing tool. This
process enables the Linux user to take a DVD's MPEG-2 data,
manipulate several audio and video characteristics,
and encode this information using a more manageable codec.
Emphasis will be given to the installation of tools and libraries
needed. Common command-line usage will be detailed, as well as
automating the process using a popular scripting language. Eater
will also touch on some of the political issues surrounding this
topic as it relates to fair use and the DMCA.
K. S. Wehr ("Eater") has been obsessed with UNIX and Linux for
much of the last decade. When not tending to his Columbus-based
networking company, he spends his time experimenting and helping
others learn about Linux and network security.

grubconfig v1.15 Kent Robotti <robotti@godmail.com> 5-30-2002
The script `grubconfig' helps you install the GRUB bootloader
on your Linux system.
It requires the `bash' shell and the `dialog' program to run.
It supports IDE and SCSI devices, it has no support for RAID devices.

From: news@gnupdate.org
Subject: libcomprex v0.3.1 released
Date: Sun, 2 Jun 2002 20:58:22 CST
libcomprex v0.3.1 has been released.
The libcomprex library transparently handles automatic compression
and decompression of files. The API is similar to C's built-in file
access functions, which provides a smooth transition to libcomprex.
libcomprex can also open uncompressed files, making it a good
replacement for the native file access functions.
The highlights for this release include:
* CxFP structures are now used as file pointers, instead of CxFile.
* Files are now read in-place from most archives. Temp files are no
longer used for all I/O.
* Rewrote the partially broken archive traversal functions.
* Removed the old, unwritten directory API functions.
* Added reference counting.
* Added file seeking using cxSeek().
* Added file position retrieval using cxTell().
* Added the ability to open archives and files from FILE * streams
and buffers.
* Fixed many bugs and memory leaks.
A detailed ChangeLog can be found at:
http://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=92194
