I've released a major new version of tomsrtbt, 2.0.0

The kernel has been upgraded from 2.0.39 to 2.2.20

Interesting new feature: bzip2 kernel and ramdisk loading

What will most be missed: emacs, for the moment, only vi will fit

What you get is... AHA152X AHA1542 AIC7XXX BUSLOGIC ST TULIP EATA EL2 EL3 EXT2

Updated new current fixed better versions of:

e2fsck mke2fs rescuept fdisk pcmcia busybox

New support added to the default image:

eexpress_pro100 ext3_fs pcnet32 serial_console

Removed from the default image:

idetape mouse slip tr emacs debugfs dumpe2fs fsck.msdos ifport pcmcia-scsi

It comes in three flavours, which make the same booted image:

tomsrtbt-2.0.0.tar.gz # for installation from DOS
tomsrtbt-2.0.0.dos.zip # for installation from Linux
tomsrtbt-2.0.0.ElTorito.288.img.bz2 # for bootable CD installation

The home page is:

        http://www.toms.net/rb/

It's a boot/root rescue/emergency floppy image with more stuff than can fit.
Bzip2, 1722Mb formatting, and tight compilation options helped jam a lot on.

It is useful for "learn unix on a floppy" as it runs from ramdisk, includes
the man-pages for everything, and behaves in a generally predictable way.

Note: This is a .0.0 version and has many known rough edges...

============================ tomsrtbt=2.0.0.lsm ==========================:
Begin3
Title:          tomsrtbt
Version:        2.0.0
Entered-date:   06APR02
Description: "The most Linux on one floppy." (distribution or panic disk).
                1.72MB boot/root rescue/tools diskette for your shirt pockets.
                Supports ide, scsi, tape, network adaptors, PCMCIA, much more.
                About 100 utility programs and tools for fixing and restoring.
                See tomsrtbt.FAQ for a list of stuff that is included. Not a
                script, just the diskette image packed up chock full of stuff.
                Easy to customize startup and scripts for complete rebuilding.
                Also good as learn-unix-on-a-floppy as it has mostly what you
                expect- vi, , lua, sed, sh, manpages- loaded on ramdisks.
                There is one installer that runs under Linux, another for DOS.

Subject: Spread 3.16.2 -- Reliable Multicast and Group Communication System
Date: Wed, 10 Apr 2002 09:04:48 CST

Spread 3.16.2 Released
http://www.spread.org

Spread is a toolkit that provides a high performance messaging service
that is resilient to faults across external or internal networks. Spread
functions as a unified message bus for distributed applications, and
provides highly tuned application-level multicast and group communication
support. Spread services range from reliable message passing to fully
ordered messages with delivery guarantees, even in case of computer
failures and network partitions.

Spread is designed to encapsulate the challenging aspects of asynchronous
networks and enable the construction of scalable distributed applications,
allowing application builders to focus on the differentiating components
of their application. Spread supports many Unix-like platforms, Windows, Mac
OS X, and Java. It is tested regularly on Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD, Mac OS X
and Windows 2000.

A new stable version, 3.16.2, of the Spread toolkit was released today.
The main focus of this release was bugfixes and stability. This version
significantly improves stability on Windows platforms specifically.

* Fix memory leak, file descriptor leaks, crash bugs and error reporting for
Windows machines.
* Enhanced makefiles for several platforms.
* Better connection handling for busy servers
* Improved man pages.

With the Spread Open Source License, the toolkit may be freely
used under some conditions. For example, the license includes the
requirement that all advertising materials (including web pages)
mentioning software that uses Spread display a specific acknowledgement.
Please review the license agreement for more details.
http://www.spread.org/license/

Other commercial licenses or other licensing arrangements are available.
Please contact michal@spreadconcepts.com. We are looking for partners
interested in using group communication and/or replication to solve
demanding, real-world problems.

From: Erick Gallesio <eg@essi.fr>
Subject: STklos 0.52 - a  Scheme compiler/interpreter
Date: Wed, 10 Apr 2002 09:05:22 CST

STklos is a free Scheme System (nearly) conform to R5RS. The aim of this
implementation is to be fast as well as light. The implementation is
based on an ad-hoc Virtual Machine. STklos can also be compiled as a
library, so that one can easily embed it in an application.

The salient points of STklos are:
       * efficient and powerful object system based on CLOS providing
           - Multiple Inheritance,
           - Generic Functions,
           - Multi-methods
           - an efficient MOP (Meta Object Protocol)
       * a simple to use module system
       * implements the full tower of numbers defined in R5RS
       * easy connection to the GTK+ toolkit
       * Perl compatible regular expressions thanks to the PCRE package.
       * tail recursive calls are properly implemented

New in this release:
        * Compiler has been rewritten and deliver code which is more
           efficient
        * New command 'compile-file' to compile a stklos file to byte-codes
        * Complete rewriting of GTklos (support of GTK+ in STklos)
          - the rewriting is still incomplete and needs some work
          - support of the Canvas widget (nearly completely finished)
          - more general event management
        * All the demos have been rewritten
        * Better error reporting
        * Errors can now be browsed with Emacs next-error previous-error
        * Added support for SRFI-2
        * Added support for SRFI-4
        * Added support for SRFI-8
        * Added support for SRFI-9
        * Added support for SRFI-22
        * new option: "--no-init-file"
        * Added bitwise operations on bignums
        * Virtual slots can now have an initial value
        * New primitives: KEY-DELETE!, KEY-DELETE, PROGRAM-NAME,
          PORT-FILE-NAME, FULL-CURRENT-TIME, SECONDS->DATE
        * Added the Bigloo MATCH-CASE and MATCH-LAMBDA
        * New form PARSE-ARGUMENTS to simplify argument parsing
        * Better support of dynamic loading.
        * Minimal support of LDAP.
        * Support of active-slots (as in old STk)
        * PCRE package used is now 3.7
        * GC package used is now 6.0
        * More documentation
        * There are now man pages for stklos and utilities
        * Many small improvements
        * Bug corrections
        * ...

Subject: RE: SHAREWARE Tsert (Integrated Testing Environment)
Date: Wed, 10 Apr 2002 09:05:30 CST

SHAREWARE

The Tsert (ITE) Integrated Test Environment is a black box oriented testing
enviroment.
It helps administer the creation and execution of testsuites.
Tsert loosely follows ISO methodology.
The user interface was developed with the Qt GUI toolkit.
Most files are stored and retrieved in XML.
It only works on Linux for now.

Tsert provides the following features:
- Qt interface.
- QA project creation module.
- Test plan creation capability.
- Automated test data generation.
- C++, Java, and Ada class testing capability.
- Testsuite browser which manages the creation and version control of test
scripts.
- Hierarchical testsuite structure with scoping rule for declarations.
- Default and requirement tracking with Mysql database engine.
- Execution of selected test scripts, in batch or interactive mode.
- Conditional execution of testcases, based on prior testcase verdict.
- Proprietary scripting language with threading capabilities.
- Protocol Data Unit (PDU) reception and transmission capability.
- GUI testing capability, examples provided.
- Database testing capability, examples provided.
- Support for other scripts languages e.g. perl, expect, tcl, etc.

Tsert acts as a test management tool, when used with scripts written
with language other than the Tsert script language.
