from India:

"LinuxCampus.net is my brain child.

"Initially LinuxCampus was only aimed towards elearning. The aim was just
to provide & update pointers. Now we have thought of various things -
selling CDs, Merchandise, providing corporate training, hands ontraining
etc.. We will soon, come with tutes [made in flash].

"The only online project is L.O.S.T. [http://lost.linuxcampus.net]
The other sections are being made."

                Announcing Treeps 1.2.1 For Linux
                ---------------------------------

Treeps is a X/Motif program for Unix/Linux that is designed to make
monitoring and interacting with the running programs on your system easy
and intuitive. A "real time" tree view shows the relationships between the
processes and is color coded to provide easy interpretation of various
values. The process tree displays any combination of users/groups and
can be used to drill down into process details and then extract key
fields for continuos monitoring. A number of predefined actions can be
performed on processes, such as signaling(killing) or viewing the man
page. Various control mechanisms can be used to fine tune the display
and adjust sampling rates etc. There are also a large number of other
features, please visit the web site for more details.

Changes from 1.2
==================

Find Processes by Name or Pid,
With auto popup of process tip

System Info Browser via simple shell gateway

        UnixWare/Solaris

More Details (LWP Info, Objects, Mem Map, ...)

            Support for LWP

Shown as glyph in tree view

Ability to drill for individual LWP details

From: Nick Hill <nikhilwiz@yahoo.com>
Subject: SMSTerm 0.4
Date: Fri, 11 Jan 2002 12:06:27 CST

SMSTerm version 0.4 has been released!

Some minor fixes relating to the errors made by ICQ while sending the
SMS reciept have been handled. The Message-ID field in the SMS reciept
has been found to be munged by ICQ. This version fixes this in the main
smsterm.pl script as well as the icqsms-send.pl script.

grab it at:

http://free.house.cx/~nikhil/SMSTerm-0.4.tar.gz
or
http://free.house.cx/~nikhil/SMSTerm-0.4.tar.bz2

SMSTerm is an application which allows you to communicate with your
computer thru SMS from anywhere. It uses the ICQ2000 protocol to
send/recieve SMS'es.

It launches a shell on a pty, and serves as a bridge between a GSM
mobile phone, and your computer. All data sent to it is sent unaltered
to the spawned shell, and all the output from the shell is sent to the
GSM mobile phone. Its useful for performing some remote administration
systems, especially from areas, where you dont have a connection to
the Internet.

look it up at:

http://freshmeat.net/projects/smsterm/

if you have any comments/suggestions, please send them to:

<nikhilwiz at yahoo dot com>

thanx!

Nikhil.

I'm releasing a new version of autoproject. Many configuration
variables are now automatically set.

Here are recent entries in the changelog:

        * configure.in: version 0.14

        * lib/*/*/*/configure.in: move definition of macro
jm_CHECK_TYPE_STRUCT_UTIMBUF from configure.in to new file
        acinclude.m4.

2002-01-08 James R. Van Zandt <jrv@debian.org>

        * autoproject.in (PROCESSED): add another explanation for missing
configure.in: requested options are not implemented.

2001-11-08 James R. Van Zandt <jrv@debian.org>

        * lib/cli/c++/none/configure.in: add macros to configure.in to set
most needed variables (courtesy of Neil Spring
        <nspring@cs.washington.edu>)

        * configure.in: version 0.12

        * autoproject.in: Complain if no configure.in skeleton
found. Call AM_PROG_LEX rather than AC_PROG_LEX.

2001-03-06 James R. Van Zandt <jrv@vanzandt.mv.com>

        * configure.in: version 0.11.3

        * program.spec.in: elaborations courtesy of Alan Eldridge

autoproject may be downloaded from here:
        http://www.mv.com/ipusers/vanzandt/
        ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/devel

from README:

autoproject - create a skeleton source package for a new program

autoproject interviews the user, then creates a source package for a
new program which follows the GNU programming standards. The new
package uses autoconf to configure itself, and automake to create the
Makefile. `make distcheck' succeeds.

The idea is that you execute autoproject just once when you start a
new project. It will ask a few questions, then create a new directory
and populate it with standard files, customized for the new project.

The version number for the new program is initialized as 0.1.0, and is
set in configure.in. It is available in C programs as the macro
VERSION, and in the Makefile as $(VERSION).

Optionally, the new package will use an external command line parser
or a parser generator. Currently, autoproject supports:

argp by Miles Bader, included in GNU C Library 2.1
        clig by Harald Kirsch <kirschh@lionbioscience.com>
                (see http://wsd.iitb.fhg.de/~kir/clighome/)
        autogen by Bruce Korb <bkorb@gnu.org>
                (see http://AutoGen.SourceForge.net/autoopts/)

I would like to support graphical user interface (GUI) as well as
command line interface (CLI) programs, but I have very little
experience with them. Contributions would be welcome.

For the latest version, check here:
        http://www.mv.com/ipusers/vanzandt/
        ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/devel

autoproject itself is distributed under the GNU General Public License.
As a special exception to the GNU General Public License, you may
use the files generated by autoproject without any restriction.

From: Steven Knight <knight@baldmt.com>
Subject: ANNOUNCE: SCons 0.03 now available
Date: Fri, 11 Jan 2002 12:06:35 CST

Version 0.03 of SCons has been released and is available for download
from the SCons web site:

        http://www.scons.org/

Or through the download link at the SCons project page at SourceForge:

        http://sourceforge.net/projects/scons/

RPM and Debian packages and a Win32 installer are all available, in
addition to the traditional .tar.gz files.

This release contains significant performance improvements, support for
command-line redirection, building from lex (.l) and yacc (.y) files,
the InstallAs method, and more than a few bug fixes.

SCons is a software construction tool (build tool, make tool) written
in Python. Its design is based on the design which won the Software
Carpentry build tool competition in August 2000 (in turn derived from
the Perl-based Cons build tool).

Distinctive features of SCons include:

  - configuration files are Python scripts, allowing the full use of a
real scripting language to solve build problems
  - a modular architecture allows the SCons Build Engine to be
    embedded in other Python software
  - a global view of all dependencies; no multiple passes to get
    everything built
  - the ability to scan files for implicit dependencies (#include files);
  - improved parallel build (-j) support
  - use of MD5 signatures to decide if a file has changed
  - easily extensible through user-defined Builder and Scanner objects

An scons-users mailing list has been created for those interested in
getting started using SCons. You can subscribe at:

        http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/scons-users

Alternatively, we invite you to subscribe to the low-volume
scons-announce mailing list to receive notification when new versions of
SCons become available:

        http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/scons-announce

Special thanks to Charles Crain, Steve Leblanc, and Anthony Roach for
their contributions to this release.

On behalf of the SCons team,

        --SK

Subject: The CREC-LUG announcement

Reply-To: sood aaditya <ec98310@matrix.reccal.ernet.in>

This is an announcement about a new LUG in CREC, Kerela, India.

We run a LUG in CREC (Calicut Regional Engineering College, Kerela,
India) called CREC-LUG. Although there have been Linux users in the
college since about 1995, paradoxically the LUG was founded in Nov 2001!
That partly explains why we haven't had any meetings yet, the other
reason being the exams :-/.

The DNS to our server (called tux.reccal.ernet.in) is shaky and slow
(almost like the whole ERNET), so the site better be accessed at the IP
address. Mail however would come through.

Lug Name : CREC-LUG
Co-ordinator : aaditya sood <ec98310 at matrix.reccal.ernet.in>
Mailing List Url: http://202.41.105.20/mailman/listinfo/lug
Mailing List Subscribe : <lug-request at tux.reccal.ernet.in> or from the Mailing list Url
Mailing List Archives : http://202.41.105.20/pipermail/lug
Lug Website : http://202.41.105.20/
First Meeting : Sometime in Jan 2002
Local Resources : A mailing list+website+~150 people:)

So any of the alumni of the college, anyone near Calicut (or anyone
at all:)) is invited to join. Just send a mail to me for more info.

Happy hacking!
