Subject: C interpreter with Classes from SoftIntegration
SoftIntegration Launches Ch -- C Interpreter with Classes
SoftIntegration has launched Ch 2.0. Ch is a superset of
C interpreter with classes that avoids lengthy
compile/link/execute/debug cycles for application
development. Ch is the most complete C interpreter in
existence. It supports C90, POSIX, and socket/WinSock with
over 1,000 functions. It is the first implementation of
complex numbers and variable length arrays (VLAs) in
the latest 1999 C standard (C99). Programs using complex type
defined in C99 and complex classes in C++ can readily run
in Ch without modification.
Ch has many high-level extensions to C, including classes
in C++, very high-level shell programming, cross-platform
Ch applets, generic functions, string type, computational
arrays for linear algebra and matrix computations,
user-friendly 2D/3D graphic plotting, classes for Common
Gateway Interface (CGI), and advanced high-level numerical
functions for linear systems, differential equation solving,
integration, non-linear equations, Fourier analysis, etc.
For example, linear equation b = A*x can be written verbatim
in Ch. The user does not need to worry about the underlying
optimization with fast and accurate numerical algorithms.
Ch is an alternative to other scripting
languages and mathematical software packages for
cross-platform shell programming, system administration,
regression test, real-time interactive computing, rapid
prototyping, scientific numerical computing, and Web
development. Ch is also a very effective interactive
environment to teach and learn programming in C with
new features in the latest C99 standard.
Ch for Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000, Linux, Solaris, and HP-UX
is available. It starts at $199 for a single-user license.
Education/student pricing is lower. Teaching Laboratory
Licenses are available for instructional use. For more

There's a freebie simulation package I use called OMNeT++ which compiles
and runs happily on unix/linux and win32 under cygwin, amongst others.
Available at
http://www.hit.bme.hu/phd/vargaa/omnetpp.htm
It has a primitive for a queue, or you can create your own from scratch.

Subject: CFP: Linux Clustering Workshop at Linux Kongress 2001
CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
Linux Kongress 2001 Clustering Workshop
November 26 - 28 2001
Enschede, NL
We are pleased to announce a working group meeting for all clustering related
topics on Linux, taking place as a part of and directly prior to the Linux
Kongress 2001.
The purpose of this meeting is to form a permanent working group on an Open
Clustering Framework, define its charter and outline the roadmap for future
work.
An Open Clustering Framework is urgently needed to increase compatibility of
projects, allow for applications to be portable across different
implementations/installations and should ideally become part of the Linux
Standards Base at some future date.
The agenda for this meeting is:
- Overview of proposed working group
- Discussion of its charter
- Presentation of current efforts
- Discussion of initial roadmap
- Work on roadmap items
Interesting papers concerning current clustering efforts are invited, to allow
for an overview of currently available solutions and open issues. Topics of
interest from this point of view include, but are not limited to:
- All aspects of High Availability Clustering
- All aspects of High Performance Clustering
- Specialised filesystems
- Distributed Lock Managers
- Kernel modifications for clustering
- Status reports of existing projects
- Research reports and Work In Progress reports
While the focus is on open efforts, commercial vendors are explicitly
solicited to present their technical offering and work with us on the Open
Clustering Framework and other aspects of Linux clustering. The cooperation
between commercial vendors and the community is vital on arriving at a viable
solution from which all parties would greatly benefit.
The intended audience of this working group meeting are clustering system
architects and developers, cluster application developers, and interested
users, whose input will be particularly welcome.
On Monday and Tuesday, we expect to have a single track of presentations, 4-6
each day, each lasting 45-90 minutes. We will also have plenty of time for
spontaneous BOF sessions.
On Wednesday morning, we will conclude the meeting with a panel session on:
"Clustering Efforts for Linux - Present and Future"
After this, the main Linux Kongress 2001 will start and you are of course
invited to stay or present a paper in the main tracks.
If you are interested in presenting your work or participating in the working
group meeting, please contact Lars Marowsky-Bree <lmb@suse.de> by Friday,
2001-11-02.
Please send a short (<400 words) abstract of your topic, whether you would
like to make it a presentation, working group meeting or tutorial.
We are also pleased that we have a - albeit limited - budget for travel
expenses.
Please understand that travel expenses can only be paid for in few cases as
our budget is rather limited, and that we would like to ask companies to pay
for their employees.
However, if you are an Open Source developer, student or working on an
interesting project and have difficulty making the trip, please contact us
also to see whether we can work something out.
Sincerely,
Lars Marowsky-Brée (Working Group Organizer)
Alan Roberston (Linux HA Project)

technologies.
What are the guiding principles behind this organization? How does it
meet
the needs of the business community? What is the associated value
proposition? In this session, we will discuss the evolution of the Linux
Professional Institute, the current state of global expansion, and the
future direction of LPI and its impact on the certification industry.
Presented by Jim Lacey.
Jim is President and CEO of Bradford Learning Incorporated, a newly
formed
company formerly known as Linuxcare University. Prior to running
Bradford
