Hello,

the event-calender on LinuxClass with international events
having todo with linux is updated. Events up to 05/2002 are
listed.
Do you miss something? Contact me per eMail.

Whats new, too?
Linuxclass now got a new link management php-based db-system.
Just try it - for the moment not so many links are listed -
the conversion from the old system will take time.

If you miss your link - contact me ;)

ciao
Volker

From: "Colin Murphy" <colin@ql4ever.demon.co.uk>
Subject: Announce: Greater London (UK) Linux User Group meeting 22/09/02

GLLUG, the Greater London Linux User Group in the UK is holding its next
meeting on Saturday 22/09/2001, starting at 1pm.the CFC Preview Theatre,
19-23 Wells St., London W1, which is not too far from the Plaza Centre in
Oxford Street in central London. For a handy map, take a look at
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?P2M?P=W1P3FP&Z=1

Three talks as follows:

Bo Thorsen (SUSE Labs):
"Porting Linux to X86-64 (sledgehammer)" The talk will give an overview of
the process of porting Linux to a new platform. It will give an overview
of the upcoming X86-64 architecture from AMD - the Sledgehammer and
Clawhammer are the first chips to implement this architecture. The
specifics of this port will then be discussed and finally a demonstration
of the port running in a simulator will be shown.

Dean Wilson:
A concise introduction to XML, its validation and transformation,
followed, no doubt, with a less than concise question and answer session.

Pjotr Prins:
ROCK Linux: Power to the User:
Despite being a 'fringe' Linux distribution you should at least be aware
of it. Much in line with the Open Source credo it brings power to the user
and scales in large setups. True to its philosophy of 'less is more' it
allows you to roll-your-own distro at no great cost. Pjotr is part of the
ROCK development group and deploys ROCK Linux in production, development
and workstation environments.

It is most likely that some will gather before hand, maybe to have lunch
and that most will gather after the meet, mostly for liquid refreshment,
so check the mailing list for what's being arranged, or to have a hand in
arranging it!

Subject: balance 2.33 - a simple tcp proxy with load balancing and failover

I'm pleased to announce balance 2.33

Balance is a simple but powerful generic tcp proxy with round
robin load balancing and failover mechanisms. Its behaviour
can be controlled at runtime using a simple command line syntax.

Balance succesfully runs at least on Linux(386), Linux(Itanium),
FreeBSD, BSD/OS and Solaris.

Balance is Open Source Software and released under GPL licensing
terms and may be downloaded at sourceforge:

  http://balance.sourceforge.net

Balance 2.33 is mainly a bugfixing release.

Enjoy !
