Subject: New MT library announce
Hi all
I have released the first working release of libmtrwe, a C library
aimed at solving the producer/consumer problem. It has been programmed and
tested under Linux using LinuxThreads (pthread_create). Documentation and
examples included. I'm always looking for help and advice.
Main features
* Circular shared buffer
* Support for 3 encoding routines apart from producer and consumer
* User-definable producer and consumer
* 4 buffering types available
Missing
* On-the-fly definition of buffer sizes
* Signal handling
* ...
The tarball can be found at the following address:

Subject: Initinf -- Get Inits from .inf Files
Initinf is a Perl script that processes Microsoft driver.inf files for
modems.
It reports the initialisation strings (like AT&F&C1&D2 etc.) for each
modem of each manufacturer listed in the file.
It is still in testing, and I would appreciate any feedback as to
whether or not it worked for you. (If it fails, could you e-mail me
the .inf file that caused the failure, please)
There are versions for Linux and also Windows (under ActiveState Perl
5.6) and a tar archive with both, and some output from running it on
the Windows/inf directory.
Check out: www.one.btinternet.co.uk/initinf/
Thanks,
Ged.

Subject: Userspace ECC, first public release
A couple of weeks ago, I was looking for ways to check the ECC status
of my ServerWorks motherboards from Linux, and I did not find anything
suitable. Since I do not like C, I went ahead and just wrote my own
tool in Perl. I wrote support for the ServerWorks LE based on the
Cobalt Linux kernel patches.
I also wrote support the ServerWorks HE based on Alexander Stohr's
patches to Rico Tudor's tool, but I have no way to test it myself.
Finally, I wrote support for the Intel LX, GX, BX, and 80820 (Camino),
because those make up most of the workstations I need to monitor.
I created a SourceForge project because it seemed like fun. The home
page is:
http://uecc.sourceforge.net/
I designed uecc to be very easy to extend to new chipsets; see the
source code if you are curious. Since it is written in Perl, it
should not be too hard to port to other operating systems as well.

Subject: CONFERENCE: Florida statewide FACUG - 13 October
The Polk County LUG will be presenting one of the roundtable
discussions at the fall statewide conference for FACUG (Florida
Association of Computer Users Groups - http://www.facug.org/)
Saturday, October 13 in Mulberry (just south of Lakeland).
Our topic is integrating Open Source solutions - in business,
institutions, and at home.
The panel will consist of
Adam Glass (FLUX, Ft. Lauderdale)
Anthony Awtrey (MLUG, Melbourne)
Ed Centanni (SLUG, Tampa)
Steve Litt (LEAP, Orlando)
Henry White (PCLUG, Lakeland)
Naturally, you and the all Linux users are cordially invited to
attend! The schedule and registration forms are at
http://www.facug.org/01fallroundtable.htm
http://www.facug.org/01fallreg.htm
It's impossible to adequately cover everything we would like to in
the allotted 80-90 minutes, so we're preparing a handout with an
extensive, annotated list of links for further information. That's
where we could really use your input ;-) If you have a good source
for anything related to integrating Open Source into a Windows
environment, let me know and I'll try to include as many of them as
I can. If the information is not currently online, we'll try to
get it online before the conference in October.
This is a semi-annual conference primarily for training new
officers and leaders, and is open to ALL users regardless of OS or
membership in FACUG. Previous conferences have had essentially the
same schedule of roundtables over one or two days, and attendance
has historically been 120-150.
At the moment, there is no current list of vendors who will be
there. There is a list online at http:/www.facug.org/vendurls.htm
from those that participated in the spring conference
and previous ones. I know that O'Reilly, SSC (Linux Journal),
IBM, LinuxCare and many other Linux vendors have been invited.
At the very least, we plan to have a copy of a current distribution
for everyone who registers, as well as the annotated links
mentioned above, a list of the LUGs around the state (website,
contact person, meeting schedule), and several working machines
for demos.
