Subject: Guikachu 0.6 "Don't hate the newborn" - PalmOS resource file editor
Date: Wed, 13 Jun 2001 16:26:16 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Dear users of both large and small computing tools,
A new release of Guikachu is available.
About Guikachu
- --------------
Guikachu is a GNOME application for graphical editing of resource
files for PalmOS-based pocket computers. It is written by Gergő Érdi
<cactus@cactus.rulez.org>. Check out
http://cactus.rulez.org/projects/guikachu/ for up-to-date informations.
Catch it all from http://cactus.rulez.org/projects/guikachu/
About this release
- ------------------
This release shouldn't have happened. I didn't have time to work on
the features I wanted this release to include, so it is a bit
half-baked. The reason it is released is that several people reported
build problems with GNOME-- 1.1.19 and later, due to changes to the
Canvas API. These problems turned out to be real, so this is a quick
port to the GNOME-- 1.2 API.
New features:
* Huge booting speed-up thanks to lazy initialization of
property editor GUI's
* Improved the check for changed values
* Menu editor bugfixes
* Enforcing the `Only one checkbox can be selected per group'
rule of PalmOS
* You don't need to go to the palette page to remove widgets
* Ported to the API of the upcoming GNOME-- 1.2.0 release
* New translations: Azeri (Ozgur Dogan Gunes), Walloon (Pablo
Saratxaga)
Guikachu uses GTK-- and GNOME-- for its user interface. File I/O is
implemented with the libxml package. Dialog windows are loaded via
libglade. You will need the versions of these packages available in
the GNOME 1.4 bundle (with the exception of GNOME-- which you will
need to upgrade to version 1.1.21)
To actually create the PalmOS resource files, you will also need PilRC
(part of the GNU PalmOS SDK) to compile the .rpc files produced by
Guikachu.
Beware of bugémons!

Hi,
It has been a while so I guess I post a message here to remind people of
the Linux User Group WorldWide (LUGWW) project.
<http://lugww.counter.li.org/>
The LUGWW project is a database with links to webpages and (email)
addresses of all those groups that have reported themselves to the
project.
So if your groups is not listed: Enroll your group via
http://lugww.counter.li.org/newlug.php3
The database is using a combination of automated rules to keep the
records up-to-date. Beyond that I do irregular checks that can't be made
automagically to make sure the information is accurate. If the
information is no longer correct it will be deleted so that anyone
looking for a local User Groups can be sure (s)he has a 95% change of
being able to actually getting to the real group.
Unfortunatly most other lists are (semi-)static and contain a lot of
obsolete information.
I hope you will enjoy the benefits of this project that is hosted on the
same server as the linux counter project <http://counter.li.org>. (So if
you are not counted yet you may want to sign up as an individual as
well.
Please read the requirement page before you start submitting your group.
Regards,
Hugo,
Linux User Group WorldWide project.

Subject: UUDeview 0.5.15

Reply-To: fp@fpx.de
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
I am pleased to announce a new version of UUDeview, the first since 1997!
UUDeview is a smart decoder for decoding Base 64 (MIME), uuencoded and
BinHex encoded files. It is especially powerful when it comes to multiple
multipart files. All you do is to save all the newsgroup articles or emails
from your mail software into a file, and UUDeview does the necessary
threading and sorting by itself.
An encoder ("UUEnview") is also included; you can send it to send mails
with MIME attachments from the command line.
Both encoder and decoder are but frontends to the UUDeview library, which
you can include into other software under usual GPL conditions.
Overwhelmed by bad conscience, I've finally waded through four years of
E-Mail, incorporating a lot of bug reports and feature requests that have
accumulated since.
This includes the frequently requested "auto-rename" (-a) option that
automatically renames files that already exist, making non-interactive
mode more painless. I also added the "feature that I promised I'll never
add," which comes as the -c (auto-clear) option. It causes all input
files to be deleted if any data was decoded from them. See the manual
for more information. The "More Mime" option (-z) causes more proper
behavior on MIME messages, to avoid false detection of encoded data
within them.
UUEnview also has a couple of new options and can now also "encode"
plain-text and quoted-printable attachments, which is useful to compose
mixed multipart attachments with the -a (attach) option.
There's also lots of tweaks and bug fixes, of course.
Please find the new release of UUDeview at
http://www.fpx.de/fp/Software/UUDeview/
I hope you like the new version. Thank you for bearing with me.

LinuxFund.org Launches its New LUG Program
PORTLAND, OR- June 12, 2001- LinuxFund.org has introduced its new Linux User
Group (LUG) project that supports open source projects while allowing the
LUGs to earn extra revenue. The project allows LUGs to make money by
selling the LinuxFund.org MBNA MasterCard to its members. A group can earn
$30 per approved application made by its members.
The Portland Linux/Unix Group (PLUG), headed by David Mandel, masterminded
this project as a way to help LUGs fund incidental expenses. PLUG is the
first LUG to support the project.
The program attempts to reverse the trend of LUG members and officers using
personal funds to subsidize the groups.
?Active LUG members provide a service to the community,? Mandel said. ?It
shouldn?t cost them money to do so.?
LinuxFund.org asks that each participating LUG places a link to the credit
card application at the bottom of their LUG mailing list e-mails, as well as
on their websites. The increase in credit card applications will allow
LinuxFund.org to award more grants that support open source projects. Each
Linux User Group will collect a quarterly check based on the number of
received and approved credit-worthy applications.
LinuxFund.org raises money by purchases made on the LinuxFund.org Matercard,
then uses the money to fund various open source projects. The group strongly
encourages the submission of new projects through online means so it can
award the most interesting projects. For more information concerning the
LinuxFund.org or to join its LUG program or submit a project, please visit
the LinuxFund.org website at http://www.linuxfund.org or call
(503) 892-3333.

It supports the Blue Wave and QWK packet formats and will support some
different formats like FTS message bases and some Internet protocols like
POP3, SMTP, and NNTP in the future. It is designed to be a reasonable
alternative to the Blue Wave mail reader and has a full screen, colored
user interface, built with the curses library.
blueMail is free, "open source" software, distributed under the GNU
General Public License; its current maintainer is Ingo Brueckl

* InfoZip, and/or other compressing archivers
* GNU make *may* be required on some systems
* PMODE/DJ (by Thomas Pytel and Matthias Grimrath) and UPX (by Markus
Oberhumer & Laszlo Molnar) is recommended (and used) for the DOS binary
What's new in this version?
- ---------------------------
This version is a major break-through. blueMail now supports all FidoNet
style message flags, can handle FidoNet style addresses (incl. point
addresses) and is able to create and read replies compatible to old packet
version 2 as well as packet version 3, which should cover all mail door
types still existing.
Starting with version 0.06, blueMail is not only a reasonable alternative
to Blue Wave for the purpose of merely reading mail, but of writing and
answering as well.
The possibility of making one color transparent lets blueMail look great
in terminals like Eterm. Have a look on
http://home.wtal.de/ib/bluemail/screenshots.html
for some examples on how up-to-date blueMail can look now.
You can find a list of new features and improvements in the history file
together with a list of new options for the configuration file since
version 0.01.
Tested Systems
- --------------
blueMail will run on multiple platforms, like
MSDOS 6.22 (DJGPP, PDCurses)
Linux 2.0, 2.2 (gcc, egcs, ncurses, PDCurses aka XCurses)
Windows 9x/NT (Cygwin, PDCurses)
and - untested -
OS/2 (emx, PDCurses)
NetBSD (ncurses)
Solaris (curses)
Don't hesitate to have a look on blueMail because of its alpha-like version
number. Though there is still a lot of work to do, it's already fully
usable.
