Subject: E Equational Theorem Prover 0.61 "North Tukvar" released
Date: Sun, 22 Apr 2001 17:09:51 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

The E equational theorem prover version 0.61 "North Tukvar" has been
released.

E is a a purely equational theorem prover for clausal logic with
equality. Thus, you can specify a mathematical problem (e.g. a
mathematical puzzle), a (small) piece of program code or some hardware
elements in clausal logic (using rules of the form "If A and B and C
then D or E or F" in a PROLOG-like syntax), and try to have the system
prove certain properties of the described structure. Be warned that
this can consume inane (in fact, theoretically unlimited) amounts of
CPU time and memory for difficult problems.

E 0.61 has been carefully tested on all CNF problems of the TPTP
problem library, version 2.3.0, and showed no unexpected
behaviour. Some results are available from the web site. The prover
can produce checkable proof objects, a simple proof checker is
included in the distribution.

E is available as a source distribution for UNIX-variants. It installs
cleanly under all UNIX variants I could get my hands on: Various
versions of GNU/Linux for Intel and SPARC, SunOS (with tweaking),
Solaris and HPUX.

The system is distributed under the GNU General Public License.

You can find the source distribution and additional information at
http://wwwjessen.informatik.tu-muenchen.de/~schulz/WORK/eprover.html
Our servers are usually rebooted Monday mornings between 3:30 and 4:00
ME(S)Z, and may be unavailable during this time.

Have fun!

Press Release - long

April 6th, 2001 - Hermann, Missouri. With two years of intensive
development,
Innomation Systems, Inc. is ready to introduce the newest OmniBasic(,
version 2.1. The latest version of OmniBasic( takes the unique legacy
features of OmniBasic( version 1.44, and adds a solid Graphical Development
Environment that allows Rapid Application Development in both the Unix and
Windows environment simultaneously. With the source code written in
OmniBasic( capable of producing a finished product in both the Windows and
Unix based operating systems, developers can write an application in either
platform and have a finished product that is available for both. This means
developers can expand their target markets without having to rewrite the
programs for the other operating system.

OmniBasic(, introduced in 1995, continues to win many benchmark tests
through the unique power and speed of OmniBasic( which makes it the only
basic compiler to be written in its own language.
OmniBasic( is a language that combines the clarity of BASIC with the power
and utility of C! Because of the simplicity of the language and the power of
the Rapid Application Development environment combined with the speed of the
finished code, the whole spectrum of applications can be developed using
OmniBasic(. Known in the industry for its fast execution speed and compact
code generation, OmniBasic( allows applications that were once the domain of
C and assembly language programmers now to be available to basic
programmers.

The new version allows console applications to continue to be developed as
well as native X-Windows and Windows based applications. The new release
supports Windows 9x, 2000 and NT, as well as Linux and BSD.

The introductory price of OmniBasic( 2.1 is $395.00 for a limited time only.
Ongoing development of OmniBasic( will allow us to expand support to
additional operating systems soon.

The legacy (Console only) version with the ten operating systems that are
supported will continue to be offered bundled together as a single package
for $395.00 as well.

March Update to Plug-In Scheduler Policies project:
Both a new patch to the base kernels and deltas to
previous downloads are provided. If you download new utilities be sure to
download the new kernel, or libpset calls may not behave properly!

Changes included:
+ support for Linux 2.4.0, 2.4.1, 2.4.2, and 2.4.3 via the same 2_4 patch
+ deleted unnecessary pset ioctl PSET_GETDFLTPSET (always 0)
+ fixed a 2.4 hang of the constant time scheduler under heavy IO stress on a
        single CPU machine or laptops.

The HP Fair Share Scheduler (FSS) is now available as a loadable module.
The user interface is an HP product called the Process Resource Manager (PRM).
A demo version of PRM 1.09 for Linux is available from the schedulers
download page as well as from our website (http://www.hp.com/go/prm).
The for-sale version of PRM 2.0 that incorporates all of the HP features,
including processor sets, should be available on CD by September

See our presentations at the May Interworks in San Francisco.

From: Thibault Godouet <fcron@free.fr>
Subject: Fcron 1.0.3 - a replacement for Vixie cron and anacron
Date: Sun, 22 Apr 2001 17:10:01 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

What is new in this release (1.0.3) ?
- -------------------------------------

- - fcron can now be configured and compiled from any directory
(not only from the source dir).

- - fcrontab is now more strict about command line syntax
(a "fcrontab -e thib" used to work (even if "thib" is not interpreted
because it should have been "-u thib"))

- - bug fix : fcron now sets umask to the value it got at start before
    running a job.

- - bug corrected : a bug used to make the "truncated" system not to work
correctly, so a too long log message used to make fcron crash.

What is fcron ?
- ---------------

Fcron is a scheduler. It aims at replacing Vixie Cron, so it implements most
of its functionalities.

But contrary to Vixie Cron, fcron does not need your system to be up 7 days
a week, 24 hours a day : it also works well with systems which are
not running neither all the time nor regularly (contrary to anacrontab).

In other words, fcron does both the job of Vixie Cron and anacron, but does
even more and better :)) ...

To do so, fcron allows you to use the standard mode in which you tell
it to execute one command at a given date and hour and to make it run
a command according to its time of execution, which is normally the same as
system up time. For example :

Run the task 'save /home/ directory'
every 3h15 of system up time.

and, of course, in order to make it really useful, the time remaining until
next execution is saved each time the system is stopped.

You can also say :

run that command once between 2am and 5am

which will be done if the system is running at any time in this interval.

Fcron also includes a useful system of options, which can be applied
either to
every lines following the declaration or to a single line. Some of
the supported options permit to:
- - run jobs one by one,
- - set the max system load average value under which the job should be run,
- - set a nice value for a job,
- - run jobs at fcron's startup if they should have been run
      during system down time,
- - mail user to tell him a job has not run and why,
- - a better management of the mailing of outputs ...

What is planed for next releases ?
- ----------------------------------

I'd like to :
- - add PAM support.
- - allow users to have several fcrontabs.
(I wonder if it is really necessary : what do you think
about it ? Please mail me answers at fcron@free.fr )
- - allow users to control their running jobs (renice, stop,
       continue ...)

(propositions and help are welcome)

How you can help me
- -------------------

I especially need help for testing every fcron functionalities.
If you'd like to help me, please contact me at :
            fcron@free.fr

Where can I get it ?
- --------------------

You can either go to the project home page at :

http://fcron.free.fr

or get it from metalab at

ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/daemons/cron/fcron-1.0.3.src.tar.gz (112kB)

(I've sent the file but it may take some time before it is available on
metalab)

I hope you will enjoy it,

Thibault.

Subject: MemoNews v1.4 GPL Linux->Palmpilot newsreader
Date: Sun, 22 Apr 2001 17:10:21 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

I'd like to announce a new version of MemoNews. It's at:

http://www.ee.usyd.edu.au/~hutton

MemoNews is a perl program that gathers nntp news (what you're now
reading), threads the articles alphabetically, and packs them into the
MemoPad for offline reading/replying. It can handle multiple newsgroups,
posting, has automatic expiration of articles, and a killfile system
based on regular expressions. It packs a lot of posts into a small space
by removing quotations, binary & html posts, signatures, and unnecessary
headers. It was written under Linux but seems to work with other unixes
just as well.

Changes from 1.3:

Killfile code has been moved into its own module. Removal of posts
containing mime, attachments, or html is more complete (headers are
removed as well). Old news can be kept by calling MemoNews with a -k
