LinuxCertified.com offers the weekend system administration
bootcamp for busy IT professionals.

- - All attendees get a free Linux laptop!

 Media Contact:
info@linuxcertified.com
http://www.linuxcertified.com/

LinuxCertified.com, a leading provider of Linux training, will
offer its next weekend system administration bootcamp on May
5 - 6, 2001 in San Francisco bay area (south bay). This
workshop is designed for busy information technology profession-
als and is designed to cover the most important Linux administra-
tion areas.

In addition to carefully designed lecture material delivered by
experienced Linux professionals, there is a heavy emphasis on
hands-on learning. The training starts two weeks before the actu-
al class, with access to an online Linux server, where students
complete few challenging pre-class activities. Attendees get a
powerful Linux laptop on their arrival, along with other class
materials. They load Linux on their laptop during the class, and
use it for all the class activities and assignments. At the end
of the class they take this laptop with them to further enhance
their Linux expertise. Absolute beginners with no UNIX experience
can first come to the popular "Linux for Beginners" class and
subsequently join the system administration bootcamp.

Rapid growth of Linux into corporate and government IT environ-
ments is fueling the need for Linux certified professionals. CIOs
and managers are eager to have Linux experts in their organiza-
tions. A certification provides a tangible mechanism for their
hiring evaluation, as well as a means to market the prowess of
organizations.

"As an independent IT consultant I am always on my toes to learn
new technologies, without much free time to devote to classes.
The LinuxCertified.com bootcamp was a perfect way for me to jump-
start my Linux knowledge. I can now use Linux as a valuable
tool in my career," said Taylor Cottam, an independent consultant
who joined one of the LinuxCertified.com weekend bootcamps.

This weekend bootcamp is specially designed to prepare the at-
tendees for the objectives of Level 1 certification exams offered
by Linux Professional Institute (LPI). The workshop also meets
the objectives of the Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) exam and
Sair Linux & GNU certification (LCA).

Our attendees build a strong sense of community with our instructors,
fellow students, and our network of recruiters and companies
looking for Linux consultants.

About LinuxCertified.com

The mission of LinuxCertified.com is to bring Linux to mainstream
IT usage. We firmly believe that Linux has an enormous potential,
once it crosses over from the early adopters to the more mainstream
users. Our goal is to help this transition by providing:

- - Linux trained and certified professionals

- - Linux certified products that cater to mainstream users rather
   than early adopters.

Issue #26 of Georg's Brave GNU World,
the monthly GNU forum has been released.
                                                -- Georg Greve

Hi !

Issue #26 of the column is now online and it can - as usual - be found
on the GNU Webpage and its mirrors. Otherwise just follow the links at
the end of this posting.

Georg's Brave GNU World is a monthly column which is being released
simultaneously in seven languages (English, German, French, Japanese,
Spanish, Korean and Portugese) on the web and printed in the German
"Linux-Magazin" as well as the "Linux Magazine" U.K. and the "Linux
Magazine France." This makes it the monthly column with the widest
distribution worldwide (afaik).

If you would like to receive mail about new issues directly, you can
subscribe to the "Brave GNU World" announcement mailinglist. Just
send mail to <brave-gnu-world-request@gnu.org> with "subscribe" in
the *body*. The mailinglist is only for announcements that are related
to the "Brave GNU World" and is of very low volume (between 1 and 2
mails a month).

The 26th issue covers the following topics:

 * GNU Pipo BBS (yes, BBS'es still exist)

 * Larswm (managing your windows a little differently)

 * GNUstep (application development made easy)

 * W3Make (easily maintaining web sites in XML)

 * OpenWebSchool (Free Software and education)

 * FSF Europe Update (news on the Free Software Foundation Europe)

This column intends to provide a forum for all GNU maintainers,
friends and associates and I am always open to suggestions. So if
you

 * have questions about the GNU Project that might be of general
   interest

 * have a GNU Project and would like to improve its profile

 * would like to start a GNU Project you are looking for people to
   start it with

 * think something doesn't get the publicity it deserves

 * would like to see something made public

send mail to:

        "Brave GNU World <column@gnu.org>"

This column is for everyone with an interest in Free Software,
so don´t hesitate to contact me if your project is under a Free
Software license and you´d like to see it introduced here.

Subject: CoreLinux++ 0.4.32 Released
Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2001 15:46:16 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

General: CoreLinux++ (http://corelinux.sourceforge.net) is an initiative
to normalize methods and conventions for OOA/OOD/C++ development for
Linux, materialized in documentation, OO analysis and design models, and
a set of Open Source C++ class libraries to support common patterns,
frameworks, and exploit the C++ standards.

News: This release includes bug fixes with transposed memset arguments
in SemaphoreGroup and Memory classes.

CoreLinux++ uses the LGPL license to minimize restrictions on
application use and extension.

Plans: At this point we continue to hone the core library for stability
and performance, while maintaining a high level of quality in our
releases. Most work will focus around a more robust signal management
implementation.

Full details of the project can be viewed from our the home page at
http://corelinux.sourceforge.net where you can also download the source
and documentation.

Subject: blueMail 0.05 - a Blue Wave and QWK compatible mail reader
Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2001 15:48:29 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

What is blueMail?
- -----------------

blueMail is an offline mail packet reader for Unix and other systems,
based on MultiMail which was originally developed by Kolossvary Tamas,
Toth Istvan, John Zero, and then by William McBrine.

blueMail supports the Blue Wave and QWK packet formats and will support
some different formats like FTS message bases and some Internet protocols
like POP3, SMTP, and NNTP in the future. It is designed to be a reasonable
alternative to the Blue Wave mail reader. blueMail has a full screen,
colored user interface, built with the curses library, and it also compiles
under DOS, Windows and OS/2.

blueMail is free, "open source" software, distributed under the GNU
General Public License; its current maintainer is Ingo Brueckl
<ib@wupperonline.de>.

You can get the latest version from

  http://home.wtal.de/ib/bluemail

where you can find binaries for Linux (Red Hat RPM), DOS and Windows, too.

Requirements
- ------------

 * Unix-compatible (POSIX) system, DOS with DJGPP, Cygwin with Windows, or
   OS/2 with EMX
 * curses -- tested with ncurses 1.9.3+, and PDCurses 2.2+
 * gcc (g++) 2.7.0+ -- may work with other C++ compilers, not tested
 * InfoZip, and/or other compressing archivers
 * GNU make *may* be required on some systems
 * PMODE/DJ (by Thomas Pytel and Matthias Grimrath) and UPX (by Markus
Oberhumer & Laszlo Molnar) is recommended (and used) for the DOS binary

What's new in this version?
- ---------------------------

You can find a list of new features and improvements in the history file
together with a list of new options for the configuration file since
version 0.01.

Tested Systems
- --------------

blueMail will run on multiple platforms, like

  MSDOS 6.22 (DJGPP, PDCurses)
Linux 2.0, 2.2 (gcc, egcs, ncurses, PDCurses aka XCurses)
  Windows 9x/NT (Cygwin, PDCurses)

and - untested -

  OS/2 (emx, PDCurses)
  NetBSD (ncurses)
  Solaris (curses)

Don't hesitate to have a look on blueMail because of its alpha-like version
number. Though there is still a lot of work to do, it's already fully
usable.

cms - a Configuration Management Shell and 3D Filesystem

Hello,

I am pleased to announce the release of my prototype configuration
management shell, cms. This takes the form of a (limited) shell
which allows the user to simply save the current filesystem state.
This is not a Version Control system, so there is no check-in and
check-out transaction - the design goal has been the mnagement of
a set of files (a configuration) and transparency. Hopefully/
eventually, the user will not notice that there is a configuration
management system in use.

I/O mimic routines (e.g. fopen() etc), are written allowing the
programmer to interface to the 3D Filesystem (which implements the
configuration management funtionality) cms is a simple example of
the use of a 3D Filesystem.

It has been developed solely using the Linux/Gnu operating system, and
is itself available under the GPL.

Cheers,
martin

configuration management funtionality) cms is a simple example of
the use of a 3D Filesystem.

It has been developed solely using the Linux/Gnu operating system, and
is itself available under the GPL.

to join! So all you Linuxers out there in Central NJ c'mon and join and help
advance the spread of Linux.

PS: I'm just a user and not a guru in Linux, but an avid fan and quick

Testing? What's that? If it compiles, it is good, if it boots up it is
perfect.

MANLug meetings for April and May, 2001.

21 April 2001, 14:00, usual place. (For more information, see
our website: http://www.manlug.man.ac.uk, under 'How to find us'.)

     Squid
     Adrian Chadd

I plan on covering all aspects of squid from the ground up - memory
management, networking code, disk IO code, HTTP client/server code,
FTP code and authentication code. I then plan on explaining the
interaction between a typical network-orientated application
and the kernel/network layers. Finally, I will cover the
lessons learnt during the last few years of squid development,
and the work-in-progress which should cover these issues.

     Thin Client Computing
     Grant Crawley

My talk on thin client computing at the next ManLUG meeting will
also include demonstration of a VNC terminal running off a laptop
as the server.

19 May 2001, 14:00, usual place.

No one has volunteered for May yet. Please feel free to volunteer!
