If you're looking for a job where you can utilize your skills in Linux
or open source software, check out http://www.mojolin.com?usenet
Mojolin is FREE. For everyone. Period. Because of this, you will see a
greater number of the small, growing Linux companies posting their jobs
here. Yes, you will also see recruiters searching for the big firms.
My thought was, "Why penalize a company for trying to get me a job" ?
You can post resumes and open
positions if you're registered. You can search either without being
registered. I will be adding more features like email notification and
international job postings in the near future.
Check it out and let me know what you think!
thanks,
Dan

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
LILO release 21.6 is based upon Werner Almesberger's LILO version 21.
Version 21.6 is an upgrade for users of the Reiser File System, and adds
new diagnostic capabilities. Internal changes allow booting kernels with
larger real-mode setup codes (2.4.0 and later). This version is fully
backward compatible with version 21.5, which added the customizable boot
menu interface, and versions back to 21.2, which allowed booting beyond
the 1024 cylinder limit on disks >8Gb.
Source code is available for download from:
ftp://brun.dyndns.org/pub/linux/lilo (developer's site)
Or from the main distribution site:
ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/boot/lilo (please use)
See the distribution file 'CHANGES' for details of the differences between
21.6 and prior releases.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Hi !
I've uploaded the Guild version 0.1.90.1.
The Guild is a fully rendered/raytraced first-person interactive adventure.
It will contain fully rendered animations and digitized speech and
soundtrack. You'll have to solve puzzles, make decisions, interact with
other people, even travel to other planets and star systems and command one
of the starships in space. You'll have to gain information out of many
different sources to successfully complete your task.
This is mainly a bugfix release, but of course a few scenes have been added.
The fixes include:
* main Makefile: VERSION no longer deleted ( distclean )
* gameflow/gfinit.c: SIGQUIT only catched if UNIX defined
* BUG: The Guild crashed when using SDL sound output
* directory sound/common created, sound/Makefile modified.
* wavefile.[ch], serror.h moved from sound/native to sound/common
* Makefile and sources in sound/native/ modified for this reason
* sound/sdl/sdl.c: SDL wave loading replaced by the one used by native
You can download it via it's homepage at http://theguild.linuxgames.com, or
directly at ftp://ftp.linuxgames.com/theguild

The Multi Router Traffic Grapher 2.9.0
by Tobias Oetiker and Dave Rand
MRTG 2.9 is the biggest change in MRTG since the release of MRTG 2.0.
So let's hear the news first:
* The rrdtool integration allows for massively increased logging
performance.
* Routers which change their interface numbers are no problem any more.
MRTG can now reliably address interfaces by IP, MAC, Description,
Name and Type. The cfgmaker tool has been rewritten from scratch and
allows to generate configurations with any of the above mentioned
interface addressing methods.
* Indexmaker has be rewritten from scratch, it is now much more
flexible and fully documented.
* All the MRTG documentation has been reviewed and ported to perls
"Plain Old Documentation (POD)" format. This allows to provide all
documentation in text, HTML and man format. It is now all available
on the MRTG web-site.
* Config file parsing has been optimized. This makes reading
configuration files much faster. Especially large configuration files
are faster by factors
* Under UNIX, mrtg can fork into several instances while querying
routers. This improves data acquisition performance dramatically,
especially with slow networks.
* Graphs and webpages can be generated on the fly is mrtg is used with
rrdtool logging. Several tools in the mrtg contrib section are
available for this purpose.
* And there is more: MRTG has been translated into 29 languages, OS
detection has been automated, did I mention performance, many of the
contributed tools have been dated and a slew of new ones has been
added, The config file reading code is now available in a documented
library which simplifies the creation of other tools which need
access to the mrtg cfg file.
* In total, over 200 individual changes are listed in the change log
since the release of MRTG 2.9.0.
DESCRIPTION
===========
The Multi Router Traffic Grapher (MRTG) is an open-source tool to
monitor the traffic load on network-links. MRTG generates HTML pages
containing Web Graphics which provide a LIVE visual representation of
this traffic.
Check
http://www.stat.ee.ethz.ch/mrtg/
to see what it does.
MRTG consists of a Perl script which uses SNMP to read the traffic
counters of your routers and a fast C program which logs the traffic
data and creates beautiful graphs representing the traffic on the
monitored network connection. These graphs are embedded into webpages
which can be viewed from any modern Web-browser.
Mrtg is known to work on most UNIX variants as well as on NT.
If you want to know more go to
http://ee-staff.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/mrtg
to read all about it and to download your copy of this nifty program.
cheers
tobi

From: Gerald Pfeifer <pfeifer@dbai.tuwien.ac.at>
Subject: GCC 2.96
Date: Thu, 12 Oct 2000 20:31:54 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
It has come to our attention that some GNU/Linux distributions are
currently shipping with ``GCC 2.96''.
We would like to point out that GCC 2.96 is not a formal GCC release nor
will there ever be such a release. Rather, GCC 2.96 has been the code-
name for our development branch that will eventually become GCC 3.0.
Current snapshots of GCC, and any version labeled 2.96, produce object
files that are not compatible with those produced by either GCC 2.95.2 or
the forthcoming GCC 3.0. Therefore, programs built with these snapshots
will not be compatible with any official GCC release. Actually, C and
Fortran code will probably be compatible, but code in other languages,
most notably C++ due to incompatibilities in symbol encoding (``mangling''),
the standard library and the application binary interface (ABI), is likely
to fail in some way. Static linking against C++ libraries may make a
binary more portable, at the cost of increasing file size and memory use.
To avoid any confusion, we have bumped the version of our current
development branch to GCC 2.97.
Please note that both GCC 2.96 and 2.97 are development versions; we
do not recommend using them for production purposes. Binaries built
using any version of GCC 2.96 or 2.97 will not be portable to systems
based on one of our regular releases.
If you encounter a bug in a compiler labeled 2.96, we suggest you
contact whoever supplied the compiler as we can not support 2.96
versions that were not issued by the GCC team.
Please see http://gcc.gnu.org/snapshots.html if you want to use our
latest snapshots. We suggest you use 2.95.2 if you are uncertain.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
zgsmplay is a curses-based real-time GSM file player with file
selector. (GSM is a lossy sound compression format ideal for speech.)
In addition to simply playing the files, zgsmplay lets you move around
them, etc., and can cope with large samples (currently up to 2Gb). A
copy of Jutta Degener and Carsten Bormann's free GSM
compressor/library is included.
You can download it from here (but it's better to use your nearest
metalab mirror):
ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/apps/sound/players/zgsmplay-1.3.tar.gz
There's also a web page here:
http://rus.members.beeb.net/zgsmplay.html
There aren't many changes in 1.3, but I thought the 16-bit change made
an update worthwhile.
Here's the changes relative to the previous version (from NEWS):
Added 16-bit support (enabled by default where possible), having
noticed how surprisingly grim 8-bit can be in some circumstances. :-)
Enabling pseudo-stereo currently makes it resort to 8-bit, though.
It previously screwed up on zero-length files, fixed that.
Added `e' (go to end of file) to onscreen help.
Here's the LSM entry:

software downloads page:
http://www.ks.uiuc.edu/Development/Download/download.cgi
Brief change summary:
- ---------------------
VMD 1.6 Alpha 3 fixes PR 114 (Cartoon rep problems with certain
molecules), and has a bunch of small user interface improvements
some of which were only on Windows, and some which are on all versions.
We're now providing pre-compiled binaries for Linux on PowerPC and Alpha
processors, which are new to this release. I intend to continue providing
these binaries as long as we have access to such machines. We have also
recently started adding Python support into VMD, although it isn't visible
in the binary distributions we're making available at this time, it will
begin to be more prominent in future revs of VMD. Those individuals curious
about Python support in VMD that are willing to play with bleeding edge code
may feel free to send us email and get in on the ground floor of VMD's Python
support.
What's new in VMD 1.6?
- ----------------------
New Features
o New support for Linux on Alpha processors
o New support for Linux on PowerPC processors
o New support for generation of RenderMan .RIB files from VMD scenes.
o New VMD Python scripting interface (developmental stage)
General Improvements and Bug Fixes
o Windows version of VMD now implements mouse capture so that you can
drag the mouse outside of the graphics window while doing rotations,
translations, scaling, and other mouse dragging operations.
o Improved interactive rendering speed of molecular surfaces by a factor
of two or more on most platforms.
o Improved OpenGL materials rendering and gave VMD better looking
default material properties.
o Tachyon ray tracer binaries are now packaged along with VMD on all
supported platforms.
o Added the ability for Tcl code to capture VMD events as through
the logfile mechanism, but through a Tcl variable, so that one VMD
can easily remote control other VMD's through a bit of Tcl sockets code.
o Significant speed increases for many common VMD commands,
many commands are 5 to 200 times faster now, using new Tcl 8.x
interpreter interface.
o Made it easier to customize size/position of the VMD command window
on Unix versions of VMD.
o Built with FLTK 1.0.9
o Built with VRPN 5.01
o Fixed PRs: 60, 106, 108, 109, 110, 111, 112, 114
User Interface Changes
o New Tcl/Tk based RMSD fit GUI
o Save state uses a GUI dialog now when possible.
User Documentation Updates
o Updated various sections in User's guide, particularly relating to new
rendering features, RMSD fit, etc.
o Started lengthy update to Programmer's guide.
o Added commit email capability to CVS, may make it an option
for read-only CVS users as well.
We welcome your feedback on this latest version, tell us what you think!
Thanks!
John Stone
