=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Hi everybody,
The next meeting of the Worcester (MA, USA) Linux Users' Group will be held on
Wednesday, September 20, 2000. The meeting will start at 7:00 PM at the WPI
Campus in Worcester, in Higgins Labs room 218 (HL218). This meeting will be
held jointly with the WPI Linux Association (http://www.wpi.edu/~wpila).
Directions to the meeting can be found on the WLUG home page
(http://www.wlug.org).
The featured speakers for this meeting will be Tim Burke and Paul Lussier from
Mission Critical Linux (http://www.mclinux.com). They will be discussing the
Kimberlite Clustering Technology. The discussion abstract and speaker bio
appears at the end of this message. This looks like it will be a great
technical discussion - one you wouldn't want to miss! A part of this discussion
will include a hardware demonstration of this technology.
This meeting is open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. WLUG
requests that attendees consider making a small donation ($3 - $5) to cover the
costs of refreshments and future group activities. After the meeting, a group
of people will be going out for pizza and beers, and you're more than welcome to
join us!
I'm looking forward to seeing alot of people at this upcoming WLUG meeting.
Later,
Andy

Kimberlite Cluster Technology Presentation
The presentation will begin with an overview of the current Linux
clustering landscape. Next it will detail the Kimberlite
implementation developed and released as GPL by Mission Critical
Linux. We will discuss the practical uses for deploying Linux
clustering for increased availability, management flexibility and
response time.
The following is an excerpt describing Kimberlite:
A Kimberlite Cluster provides support for two server nodes connected
to a shared SCSI or Fibre Channel storage subsystem, in an
active-active failover environment. The software provides the ability
to detect when either node leaves the cluster, and will automatically
trigger recovery scripts which perform the procedures necessary to
restart applications on the remaining node. When the node rejoins the
cluster, applications can be moved back to it, manually or
automatically, if required. Sample recovery scripts are
provided. Kimberlite is designed to deliver the highest levels of data
integrity and be extremely robust. It is suitable for deployment in
any environment that requires high availability for un-modified Linux
applications.
Speaker Biography:
Tim Burke is the cluster architect and project leader of the team of
developers at Mission Critical Linux who developed Kimberlite.
Previously, Tim worked at Digital and was a team leader on the Digital
UNIX TruCluster product. He has been working on Unix related kernel
and middleware products for over 13 years.
