Subject: COMMERCIAL: Extensys 1.0.1 Released. - Linux based platform for
Date: Fri, 8 Sep 2000 20:55:32 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Extensys 1.0.1 is released and is available for download. Please
check-out http://www.telcosoft.com for details.
What is Extensys ?
- -------------------
Extensys is a powerful and complete environment for developing and
deploying production-grade communications applications in a distributed
environment. Using Extensys, a C++ software developer can develop
complex and robust communications applications at a rapid pace without a
deep understanding of the underlying devices, protocols and practices.
When these applications are deployed, the services provided by these
applications can be accessed by the end-users (or subscribers) either
from a telecommunications network (via phone) or from the service
providers web site. For more information on Extensys, please visit our
web site at:
http://www.telcosoft.com
Free Extensys
- -------------
In order to encourage the development of
communications/telecommunications applications using Extensys, we have
made a free version of Extensys available from our web site. The free
version must be used for development purposes only and there is a
separate license for commercial use. Free Extensys is a fully functional
software load except that it limits the number of voice ports that can
be used by applications to 4. The license for the free version expires
in 180 days and thereafter, it can be renewed repeatedly for the
TelcoSoft web site. The renewal ensures that you have the latest version
of the software running on your development system.
TelcoSoft also plans to make a number of popular telecommunications
applications available for free downloads. We use an open-source model
for these applications and they can be used freely in modified or in
their original form by anyone. Currently, the only application available
from our FTP site is an "Email Reader" which allows subscribers to
listen to their e-mails from a phone. We are planning to make two more
new applications available shortly.
What is new in Extensys 1.0.1 ?
- -------------------------------
(1) Support for Dialog D/240SC-T1 and D/160SC-LS boards for the Linux
x86 operating system. Dialogic is a leading provider of CT boards and
solutions and recently they have made their drivers and SDK available
for Linux. Now you can use Extensys on Linux to develop and deploy
applications using boards from the Dialogic family.
(2) Various bug fixes in the area of telecommunications services.
(3) Updated document set containing more information.

Subject: asmutils 0.10 - miscellaneous utilities written in assembly
Date: Fri, 8 Sep 2000 20:42:54 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Description:
asmutils is a set of miscellaneous utilities written in assembly language,
targeted on embedded systems and small distributions (like rescue or
installation disks); also it contains small libc and crypto library.
It features the smallest possible size and memory requirements,
the fastest speed and good functionality.
Currently project supports Linux and BSD family (FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD),
BeOS support is in the works; however it is quite portable to any i386 OS.
Another goal of this package is to provide PORTABLE source code library,
and to encourage assembly programmers to write for Linux/UNIX.
Brief summary of changes:
new file management utils (cp, mv, rm), NetBSD and OpenBSD port,
optional custom 404 error message in httpd,
crypto algorightms are build into one library - libcrypto;
include files updated to be in-line with the latest kernel versions,
source structure rearranged, documentation updated,
new fbcon intro added (fire256), lots of various bugfixes.

system capable of assembling, storing, manipulating, and displaying
geographically referenced information , i.e. data identified according to
their locations.

The Free GIS project focusses on free GIS and mapping software.
Annoyed by the hassles of proprietrary tools the founders of
this project started the first site dedicated to free (-speech)

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
PIKT, Problem Informant/Killer Tool, version 1.11.0
HIGHLIGHTS: Added new 'piktc -m#' option for doing checksum compares
(file integrity checking). Added new 'piktc -L' option for generating
custom system lists. Added #verbatim preprocessor directive for
including a file "as is". Added automatic input file rewrites (for
excluding or modifying lines). Added automatic, implicit definition
of "non" hostgroups (set complements). Speeded up associative array
processing. Fixed a serious memory leak in the script parser, also
several other bugs.
PIKT, an innovative new paradigm for administering heterogeneous networked
workstations, is a cross-platform, multi-functional tool for monitoring
systems, reporting and fixing problems, and managing system configurations.
PIKT is quickly gathering potential as a serious security management system.
PIKT consists of an embedded scripting language with unique, labor-saving
features; a sophisticated script (and system config file) preprocessor,
scheduler, and installer; and other useful tools. PIKT is a category buster
with many, many different uses limited only by your ingenuity and imagination.

From: Thibault Godouet <fcron@free.fr>
Subject: Fcron 0.9.1 - a replacement for Vixie cron and anacron
Date: Fri, 8 Sep 2000 20:44:25 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
What is new in this release (0.9.1) ?
- -------------------------------------
- - users can now ask fcron to run a job depending on the 1, 5 and/or 15
minutes system load average (i.e. run this job when 5 minutes load
average is lower than 1.3) thanks to the options lavg*.
They can also set a timeout to this wait using the option until.
- - a different mailto option can be set for each line in a file
What is fcron ?
- ---------------
Fcron is a scheduler. It aims at replacing Vixie Cron, so it implements
most of its functionalities.
But contrary to Vixie Cron, fcron does not need your system to be up
7 days a week, 24 hours a day : it also works well with systems which
are not running neither all the time nor regularly (contrary to
anacrontab).
To do so, fcron allows you to use the standard mode in which you tell
it to execute one command at a given date and hour and to make it run
a command according to its time of execution, which is normally the same
as system up time. For example :
Run the task 'save /home/ directory'
every 3h15 of system up time.
and, of course, in order to make it really useful, the time remaining
until next execution is saved each time the system is stopped.
You can also say :
run that command once between 2am and 5am
which will be done if the system is running at any time in this
interval. Or even :
run this job once every week as soon as the 15 minutes
load average is lower than 0.9
Fcron also includes a useful system of options, which can be applied
either to every lines following the declaration or to a single line.
Some of the supported options permit to: run jobs one by one, run jobs
at fcron's startup if they should have been run during system down time,
a better management of the mailing of outputs, set a nice value for a
job ...
What is planed for next releases ?
- ----------------------------------
I'd like to :
- - allow users to have several fcrontabs
- - allow users to control their running jobs (renice, stop,
continue ...)
(propositions and help are welcome)
Where can I get it ?
- --------------------
You can either go to the project home page at :
http://fcron.free.fr
or get it from metalab at
ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/daemons/cron/fcron-0.9.1.src.tar.gz
(I've sent the file but it may take some time before it is available on
metalab)
I hope you will enjoy it,
Thibault.
