REGISTRATION
OpenScheme does not now require a licence number to run. Therefore,
registration is required to obtain a free support.

WHAT IS OPEN-SCHEME ?
OpenScheme is a Scheme interpreter/compiler/debugger conform to the
R5RS standard (only scheme-report-environment, null-environment are
not supported)

It is available for Intel PC with Linux, BeOS [(r) Be, Inc], FreeBSD,
Solaris, or Windows [(R) Microsoft]. Since the user sees the same API
interface, cross-development is easy and immediate.

OpenScheme integrates a lot of interesting features, such as a regular
expression parser, object oriented system, CLOS based, console Object
Oriented interface, an standardized Operating System access, a
preemptive timer library that is thread compatible.

A low-level set of primitives and a OO graphical library are now
available. The OO graphical library is entirely written in Scheme. It
provides all the common Widgets.

OpenScheme is open to the net: A NET plugin provides all the necessary
functions to access to the net, such as Sockets, Crypt, Encode, Mail,
CGI, ...

A fully relational database engine is also provided in the
professional edition. It allows to handle any number of files, large
objects, objects with variable size, files larger than 4Go.

OpenScheme includes an interpreter that performs on-flow compilation
and a compiler that produces pure ANSI C. It also includes a command
line symbolic debugger.

OpenScheme allows to put in the same source file high level Object
Oriented code, standard Scheme, C and assembly (that breaks
portability). This feature provides an impressive power to the
development environment.

Therefore, OpenScheme does not have yet an integrated graphical user
interface. This is planned.

OpenScheme is commercially supported by:

        Erian Concept
Le Stella, 155 bd de la Madeleine
        06000 - Nice - FRANCE
        Phone: +33 493 441 806
        Fax : +33 493 441 806
        WEB : www.erian-concept.com
        email: osm.support@erian-concept.com

OpenScheme is distributed in four editions:

- -Free WEB edition: fully functional interpreter version, with plain
HTML documentation. This version does not include the development
kit. It can be freely distributed (distributor may request a special
license number).

- -Standard edition: This version allows to have profits and to sold all
derivated products, royalties free. A technical support is provided by
Erian Concept.

- -Professional edition: This edition includes the paper manuals, the
OSD database engine. OSD is a native relational database kernel with
an unlimited number of simultaneously opened tables, wide files
(>4Go), variable length fields, b+tree indexes, memory tables, etc.
In addition, free updates for the next three minor and major releases
of OpenScheme.

Our sponsors are NetUltra (www.netultra.com), Iverson Softwares
(www.iversonsoftware.com) and Linux Magazine (www.linuxmag.fr) and
Tornado Technology, Inc (http://www.3dtwister-aec.com).

Subject: Spread 3.13 -- Group Communication system with reliable multicast
Date: Fri, 18 Aug 2000 09:02:27 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

A new version of the Spread wide are group communication system has been
released. Spread is a networking toolkit that provides reliable group
multicast for many-to-many or one-to-many groups. Spread also provides
ordering of messages sent to groups, such as fifo order from each sender or
agreed order from all senders, and a strong membership service that can be
used to build fault-tolerant distributed applications. Spread consists of a
networking daemon and a client library that is linked into an application.

Spread is currently used for collaboration tools, distributed web server
logging, and replicated state systems.

The main web site is

        http://www.spread.org/

The software can be downloaded from

        http://www.cnds.jhu.edu/download/spread.tar.gz

Version 3.13 is a significant release. It includes two main enhancements:

1) Major scalability improvements. Spread should now support up to 990
connections to each daemon, thousands of groups, up to 128 daemons per
configuration, and double the throughput for small messages.

2) A new, more flexible and readable configuration file format. The
configuration file is now called 'spread.conf' and has a simplified
format that also allows runtime configuration of the log format, which
messages to log, and a flag to disable certain dangerous monitor
   commands.

Additionally, All known bugs are fixed with this version. This
includes a bug with the new NO_DROP semantics in version 3.12 and some
membership crashes that occur under high load. Behind the scenes, this
version consolidates some of the research done in the Center for
Networking and Distributed Systems lab (http://www.cnds.jhu.edu) at Johns
Hopkins University over the last few years into the public distribution.

Spread is currently freely available for non-commercial, education, and
research purposes in both binary and source form.

Currently two freely-available commercial use licenses are available for
Spread. One allows the use of Spread for distributed logging of Apache web
server logs, and the other allows the use of Spread for distributed SSL
session caching with Apache-SSL. For more details please see
http://www.spread.org/license/

Other commercial use of Spread requires an additional license. Please
contact yairamir@spreadconcepts.com.
