Subject: LOCAL: Last Thursday in Bergen: Møte for Linux-brukere og interesserte
Date: Sun, 4 Jun 2000 20:04:09 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
[ The bulk of this message will be in Norwegian. It concerns the first
in a series of Linux user group meetings in Bergen, Norway ]
Bergen Linux User Group innleder sin møteserie "Last Thursday" for
Linux-brukere og andre interesserte
Torsdag 8. juni 2000 klokken 18.00
Red Hat 6.2.
inn i.
Vi benytter oss igjen av muligheten til å minne om BLUGs hjemmeside,
som langsomt vokser innholds- og utformingsmessig på
url:http://www.bbb.no/blug. Der finner du løpende oppdatert info om
brukergruppen og annet linux-relatert stoff. En annen viktig kanal for
kommunikasjon med og mellom BLUG-medlemmer er epostlisten,
mailto:blug@gs.bergen.hl.no
Spørsmål kan rettes til avsender, mailto:peter@datadok.no eller til
blug-listen mailto:blug@gs.bergen.hl.no

Subject: Mtools-3.9.7 - use MS-DOS disks without mounting them
Date: Sun, 4 Jun 2000 20:05:15 GMT
Reply-To: alain@linux.lu
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
I have the pleasure to announce mtools 3.9.7. Mtools is a collection
of utilities to access MS-DOS disks from Unix without mounting them.
Mtools supports Win'95 style long file names, FAT32, OS/2 Xdf disks
and 2m disks (store up to 1992k on a high density 3 1/2 disk). Mtools
also includes mpartition, a simple partitioning programing to setup
Zip and Jaz media on non-PC machines (SunOs, Solaris and HP/UX).
As usual, this is available at http://mtools.linux.lu and
http://www.tux.org/pub/tux/knaff/mtools/
The md5sums are:
07883f4a6ccfd42f34ba495d9b5e5153 mtools-3.9.7-1.i386.rpm
6be028b20b5f94e74107442d972efe22 mtools-3.9.7.tar.gz
This is mostly a maintainance release which fixes a couple of bugs in
the following areas:
1. FAT32 compatibility for Windows 98: several people reported
problems with scandisk running after they wrote to their partitions
using mtools: these problems are now fixed. Moreover, mtools now can
properly create FAT32 filesystems.
2. More robust floppyd. The current version should compile on all
versions of Solaris as well.
Regards,
Alain

Subject: Dump 0.4b17 released
Date: Sun, 4 Jun 2000 19:59:36 GMT
Reply-To: Stelian Pop <pop@cybercable.fr>
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Dump/restore 0.4b17 has been released today.
This new version fixes some small bugs and gives some new
useful features (like the readline support in interactive
restore).
You can fetch it, submit bug reports, participate on the
mailing lists at the dump homepage:
http://dump.sourceforge.net
Enjoy!
Stelian.
Changelog follows:
- -----------------------------------------------------------------
Changes between versions 0.4b16 and 0.4b17 (released June 1st, 2000)
====================================================================
1. The -F script is called now *only* at the end of a tape,
not at the end of the dump. Thanks to Christian Haul
<haul@informatik.tu-darmstadt.de> for the bug report.
Normally, the device name and the current volume number
are passed on the command line of the script. However,
if you want the old style script (with no arguments
passed on the command line), you can enable it in
configure with the --enable-oldstylefscript.
2. Use posix signal handling to preserve dump functionality
with libc5. Thanks to Jeff Johnson <jbj@redhat.com> for
the patch.
3. Made the exit code of restore in case of a 'C'ompare
command reflect the result of the compare. An exit status
of 0 means the dump archive is correct, 1 means tape errors,
2 means that some files were modified. Thanks to Kenneth Porter
<shiva@well.com> for the suggestion.
4. Made (finally) quotes work in interactive restore.
5. Small fixes in order to allow dump to compile with a
really old e2fsprogs version. Thanks to Ian Zimmerman
<itz@speakeasy.org> for the bug report.
6. Add GNU readline capabilities to interactive restore.
Use configure's --enable-readline flag to enable this feature.
Thanks to Patrik Schindler <poc@pocnet.net> for the
suggestion.
7. Do the compare on the fly in restore 'C' mode (this will
allow not to exhaust the available /tmp space when
ccmparing large files). Thanks to Kenneth Porter
<shiva@well.com> for the suggestion.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
I have uploaded fdutils-5.4 to sunsite, fdutils.linux.lu and
www.tux.org. This is mainly a maintainance release, incorporating the
patches that have accumulated over the last year:
1. Removed a couple of buffer overrung vulnerabilities from fdmount
2. Made documentation conformant to new texi syntax
3. Fdutils can now be compiled with 2.3 & 2.4 kernels
The fdutils package contains utilities for configuring and debugging
the Linux floppy driver, for formatting extra capacity disks (up to
1992K on a high density disk), and for sending raw commands to the
floppy controller.
Fdutils can be found at the following locations:
http://fdutils.linux.lu/
http://www.tux.org/pub/knaff/fdutils
and soon at:
ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/utils/disk-management
The md5sum are:
17c1df04b1e524078ee52825a5ef5e56 fdutils-5.4.tar.gz
e1ee49ab973e8ff1de9adcdb04e5730b fdutils-5.4-2.i386.rpm
The package includes the following items:
- superformat: formats high capacity disks of (up to 1992k for high
density disks or up to 3984k for extra density disks)
- fdmount: automatically mounts/unmounts disks when they are
inserted/removed.
- xdfcopy: formats, reads and writes OS/2's XDF disks.
- MAKEFLOPPIES: creates the floppy devices in /dev
- getfdprm: prints the current disk geometry (number of sectors,
track and heads etc)
- setfdprm: sets the current disk geometry
- fdrawcmd: sends raw commands to the floppy driver
- floppycontrol: configure the floppy driver
- general documentation about the floppy driver
I suggest you get mtools-3.9.7 too. Indeed mtools-3.9.6 had a couple
of bugs which made it difficult to access Win98 FAT32 partitions.
There is an fdutils mailing list at fdutils@tux.org. To subscribe to
it, send a message containing 'subscribe fdutils' in its body to
majordomo@tux.org. Mailing list archives are at
http://www.tux.org/hypermail/fdutils
Before submitting a bug report, check whether your problem has not
yet been fixed in one of the Alpha patches at:
http://fdutils.linux.lu/
http://www.tux.org/pub/knaff/fdutils
