Subject: Cyrus imapd 2.0.3 released, enterprise IMAP server
Date: Sun, 4 Jun 2000 19:29:14 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
First release of a set of major enhancements to the Cyrus IMAP server.
This release incorporates all the changes in the 1.6 codebase and adds
on a number of new features, described below.
The Cyrus IMAP server is a high-performance IMAP server meant to scale
from small departments to large enterprises. It operates on the
"sealed server" model: all user access to mail is through the IMAP,
POP3, or KPOP protocols. It supports a wide variety of authentication
mechanisms and Sieve mail filtering.
Please consider this a late alpha/early beta release. We have tested
the code in-house but have not yet deployed to our production servers.
Please refer to doc/bugs.html for any outstanding issues.
PLEASE be sure to read the documentation as a number of things have
changed since the 1.6 release!
We encourage people to migrate to this code base as no further work
will continue on the 1.6 code base.

What's New in 2.0
- -----------------
.. The mailboxes file is now a transaction-protected Berkeley
database.
.. User cyrus.seen is now a per user transaction-protected Berkeley
database.
.. The core delivery process has been moved to lmtpd. deliver is now a
simple wrapper to create an LMTP transaction.
.. There is a master process responsible for spawning services
(imapd, lmtpd, etc.) and for routine housekeeping. (i.e. inetd no
longer invokes the imapd).
.. ACAP (Application Configuration Access Protocol) support for
Cyrus Murder: IMAP Aggregator. (Setup documentation is still in
progress).
.. Sieve enhancements: regular expressions, notifications,
automatically setting IMAP flags.
.. Instrumentation via SNMP for monitoring system and IMAP protocol
usage. This release still has the SNMP monitoring with the IMAP
distribution. We will soon split this off into its own distribution.
.. Perl version of cyradm contributed by Brandon Allbery
(allbery@ece.cmu.edu). We are transitioning to the Perl version
away from the TCL version.
.. Bugfix in modified UTF-7 processing (for mailbox names).
.. Implemented the extension MULTIAPPEND.
.. RENAME is now hierarchical.
.. The right that controls whether a mailbox may be deleted is now
"c". (It used to be "d".)
.. Documentation reviewed and updated. Still needs more work.
.. Netnews is now done differently. The cyrus code now has
'remotepurge' which will do the purges. Data is fed directly to the
imap server via LMTP from inn. We submitted these patches and the
inn folks seemed positive about including it in the distribution. In
the mean time, the patches are in the netnews/ subdirectory.
.. After 7/1/2000, the Cyrus IMAP server will be covered under an
'Apache Public License' style copyright. Commercial use of any form
no longer requires a license.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
This is to announce version 0.9-22 of LPU, the Label Printing Utility.
Version 0.9-22 is a major update compared to version 0.9-18, the last
official release, nearly two years ago.
LPU is a tool for creating labels and forms of any kind from a textual
description. For a maximum of flexibility, output is created in the
Adobe PostScript(TM) format.
It is written in plain C, so it should build and run on most flavours
of UNIX and (with a minimum of changes) many other systems.
For further information and to download the latest version, please
visit the LPU homepage at

The gnokii project is pleased to announce the release of gnokii 0.3.2.
gnokii provides a set of tools and device drivers for Nokia GSM mobile
phones for Linux and other Unixes. The tools provided allow users to edit
phone book entries, send and receive SMS messages and on the more recent
Nokia models upload/download operator logos, ring tones and the like.
New to this release is a user space daemon/device driver that allows data
calls to be made from the GSM phone to a modem or ISP. This is a significant
milestone in the project and adds significantly to gnokii's usability for
people running Linux or other unices in a mobile capacity.
Development of gnokii is ongoing, work is underway to support more recent
Nokia models as well as other manufacturer's GSM phones and Nokia's PCS/TDMA
offerings as sold in North America.
Further details on gnokii can be obtained from the project's website at

I have just developed a new "desktop assistant" widget (called Webcheck)
to help you find relevant information from the Web. It's written using
gtk and has been tested on a box running Red Hat 6.1 with the Gnome
window manager. It works with KDE and WindowMaker too. You can download
it from:
http://www.webtop.com/webcheck/linuxdownload
The idea is you highlight some text (in any window) and then click on
the widget, which posts the text to the Webtop search engine (maintained
by my colleagues and I; see http://www.webtop.com), which then returns
relevant search results. The advantage over typing into a search box is
that you can highlight whole paragraphs of text and not have to figure
out the best search words.
It'd be great if people could check it out and make comments as this is
really only an early beta version. We've set up a news group
news://nntp.webtop.com/webtop.discuss so comments could be posted there.
Cheers,
Tom
