Subject: rp-pppoe 1.4 -- Robust PPPoE client for Linux
Date: Wed, 23 Feb 2000 21:31:45 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Version 1.4 of rp-pppoe has been released.

rp-pppoe is a user-mode client for the Point-to-Point Protocol over
Ethernet, a protocol used by many ADSL service providers. It runs with
standard Linux kernels (2.0 or 2.2; no kernel modification required.)

I'm pleased to announce the release of version 1.4 of my Linux PPPoE
client.

Changes:

- - Easier installation procedure: ./configure; make install will do it.

- - All configuration info is moved into /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf; you don't
need to edit the adsl-connect script.

- - Added adsl-start and adsl-stop commands to control the connection.

- - Added a script to start the adsl connection on bootup (Red Hat-like
systems only.)

- - Added a Red Hat RPM package for people who don't like compiling source
tar files. It will probably work only on RH6.1 systems.

Grab it at:

        http://www.roaringpenguin.com/pppoe.html

Regards,

David.

recognizing new groups) which were discovered by Lloyd Zusman and Joerg
Dietrich, respectively. People running 1.9.10 are advised to upgrade.
The full changelog can be found at
        http://www.leafnode.org/changes.html

The Leafnode homepage has moved to

I am thankful to all the people who provided feedback or (even better)

Subject: sysstat-3.1 - The SAR and IOSTAT commands for Linux
Date: Wed, 23 Feb 2000 21:35:48 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

A new version of sysstat is now available on Sunsite/Metalab site:

ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/status/
65kB sysstat-3.1.tar.gz
67kB sysstat-3.1-1.src.rpm
48kB sysstat-3.1-1.i386.rpm

sysstat is a set of tools that help the administrator to monitor its system
performance.

This is mainly a maintainance release. This one:

 * Fixes a bug that made average numbers wrong for some statistics
when reading them from a system activity file.
 * Fixes a bug that prevented the user from retrieving some
statistics when reading them from a system activity file.
 * sadc no longer core-dumps on UP machines with SMP support enabled
   in the kernel.
 * System activity files are now readable by everybody.
 * Average statistics since boot time are now printed when interval
parameter is set to 0. If interval and count parameters are not
set on the command line, sar selects requested activities from
the current system activity daily data file.
 * sadc, sa1 and sa2 manual pages moved to chapter 8 instead of 1m.
 * iostat disk accounting patch modified to work with md drivers.
