- just run it - no need to compile anything
Nice. And what's new ?
======================
* Implemented 3 new games.
* Updated the pysol-sound-server.
* Fixed a number of minor problems.
Cool. Where can I get it ?
==========================
Point your browser to http://pysol.tsx.org
The PySol Gallery is awaiting your visit as well.
What do I need to start playing ?
=================================
PySol requires Python 1.5.2 and Tcl/Tk 8.0.5. Both packages are
freely available for Unix, Windows 95/98/NT and Macintosh.
BTW, there is no need to compile anything since the whole program is just
a Python script. Just run it, and that's all.
The Windows version ships as a completely self-contained setup file.

Process Monitor HOWTO v3.0 is released to public.
Process Monitor is a small, tiny and very powerful
program to monitor the Web-servers, Database servers
and other unix/linux processes. It gaurantees 100%
uptime of web-servers/database servers 24x7x365 days.
The "reflex action" or the reaction time can be as
tiny as few nano-seconds for controlling
mission-critical applications. It is completely
written in "C" and hence it is very fast!! You can add
GUI layers on top of it in KDE(QT), GNOME to build
user-friendly alert/alarm systems and activate pagers,
cell-phones or beep/flash icons on GUI console.

From: behoffski <behoffski@grouse.com.au>
Subject: Grouse Grep V2.00 for Linux released
Date: Wed, 23 Feb 2000 21:07:44 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
G'day,
Grouse Grep is a grep utility for Linux that can search
files faster than GNU Grep in a number of important
cases, although in more complex cases the program can be
exponentially slower. Full source is included in the
release, and a substantial web documents the code
modules and the algorithms behing the high-speed
search.
The code includes a number of interesting modules
that have application outside of grep. For example:
- - a sophisticated general-purpose trace/debug facility
called Tracery is included. This facility allows
each module's traces to be configured individually,
and lets you choose how you display and/or capture
trace output.
- - FastFile uses mmap(2) to let programs access raw
file data without the overhead imposed by read(2).
The code includes optional conditioning of the start
and end of the buffer, and can also tailor the
buffer to start and end on line boundaries if
required.
- - A new high-performance string search algorithm
called Self-Tuning Boyer-Moore (STBM) is provided.
This code runs faster than Tuned Boyer-Moore in many
cases, and is less vulnerable to pathalogical cases.
The announcement message, which includes a link to
the web, is at:
http://www.grouse.com.au/ggrep/announce.html
You can download the source code from:
ftp://ftp.grouse.com.au/clients/grouse/ggrep-2.00.tar.gz
cheers,
Brenton

Subject: FlightGear 0.7.2 flight simulator
Date: Wed, 23 Feb 2000 21:15:30 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Flight Gear version 0.7.2 is now available for download. This new
version also requires you to download version 0.7.2 of the base
package.
For more information, please visit the Flight Gear web page at:
http://www.flightgear.org
Here is a summary of the changes for version 0.7.2:
* Lots of code reorganizations
* Build requires plib-1.1.x
* Build requires SimGear-0.0.x (Available in the same place as the
FlightGear source)
* LaRCsim/c172 is now the default aircraft model.
* Added flaps support to control model.
* Lots of updates and tweaks for the LaRCsim/c172 model.
* Use a more standard texture/blend mode combination for sun/moon halos to
avoid render path that's not supported by all cards/drivers.
* Change reported speed on hud from V_equiv_kts to V_calibrated_kts
* Instrument panel rewrite by David Megginson. This isn't quite as flashy
as the first pass, but is much more functional, plays much better with
opengl, and it should be relatively easy for someone with graphical skills
to make it look more spiffy.
* MacOS fixes contributed by Darrell Walisser.
* Many JSBsim updates.
* Added a screen snapshot facility (F3).
* Added a load/save state function contributed by David Megginson.
* Added support for various I/O protocols and channels so that flightgear
can communicate with itself and other programs through a variety of means.
* Bug fix: The aircraft model used for external views was being included in
the height above terrain check so when the view position and the aircraft
model collided the current altitude kept getting pushed up to compensate,
but of course the aircraft model would get pushed up as well because it
tracks the current aircraft position and orientation. Thus you had a never
ending cycle ...
* Oliver's multiplayer network code now moved to his own subdirectory:
NetworkOLK
* Added simulated cloud puffs as we pass through the cloud layer.
* Cleaned up some memory leaks occuring between ssg and flightgear.
* Update to Christian's weather data base code.
Regards,
Curt.

Subject: tinyproxy 1.3.2 released.
Date: Wed, 23 Feb 2000 21:09:19 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
This is another interim release of tinyproxy that fixes a few more bugs,
and adds a feature or two (notably: non-blocking DNS lookups). It was
decided to move back what was previously going to be released as 1.3.2 and
release it as 1.4.0, as these bug fixes and patches were determined to be
too high-priority to wait on.
As of 1.3.2, there are the following new features:
- Non-blocking DNS lookups.
And the following bug fixes:
- A bug where connptr was not correctly being set before httperr was being
called in reqs.c.
- A bug where the system would crash if an empty request was received.
- A file descriptor leak where an fd would not be properly closed in
event of a bad HTTP request.
Here is some information on the upcoming 1.4.0 release:
1.4.0
=====
1.4.0 is in the works. Some features you can expect:
- Ability to listen on >1 port.
- Ability to set up more than one access list for the allowed
IP subnets.
- Ability to listen on multiple interfaces specified on the command-line.
- Simple caching.
- Fix problem with garbage collections going haywire when a connection
EWOULDBLOCKs on send().
Under the hood, 1.4.0 should be a bit more modular than 1.3.2. This
will hopefully lend itself towards making it easier for third parties to
develop new features for tinyproxy.
Please note that as of 1.3.1, Steven Young <sdyoung@well.com> is once
again the primary maintainer of tinyproxy.

Subject: multiple - tool to search and manipulate superfluous files
Date: Wed, 23 Feb 2000 21:18:04 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Hello!
A new version of the tool "multiple" is available now via ftp.
It prints the names of superflous files, which names you pipe in.
That means: if there are n files with equal contents,
the name of n-1 files will be printed. Without options, it
ignores file with size == 0 and rather print out symbolic
links than regualr files (n => n-1; 1 regular not printed, if
symlinks and regular files are equal).
Options: - Print names of ALL equal files
- Ignore Mailheaders when comparing the files
- don't ignore files with size == 0
- delete superflous files (and print names of
non-deleted)
- print version
- print short help message
usage-example: find <dirname> -print | multiple -d
(ATTENTION: Do not use "-follow" option of find!)
In the usage-example above, all superflous files under
the directory with the name you have to insert instead
of "<dirname>" will be deleted. The names of the residual
files will be printed to stdout.
Changes against the old version:
* This version (0.2) has two more Options then the
first Version ("-0" and "-d").
* Better internal data structure/program structure
(not as quick hacked as the first version;-)).
* Option "-i": Headers can have individual lengths

Linux Mall Announcement:
We're Doing It Again: Linux for 99 Cents! Date: 2/15/2000
The 1999 year-end Linux CD blowout was so popular, we're doing it again! For
a limited time, grab yourself a Penguin Power Linux CD for only 99 cents.
That's right, an entire state of the art operating system for only 99 cents.
Just 99 cents gets you an entire Linux distribution, complete with Apache,
Samba, the Gimp, Netscape and all the tools necessary to run a Linux system.
LinuxMall.com wants everyone to have the opportunity to try Linux. Sure, you
could download Linux for free, but unless you've got a very high-speed
connection it would take days. Our CDs are great for students, user group
giveaways and long-time Linux and UNIX users who don't need no stinkin'
manuals! (There's still plenty of online documentation, just no printed
manuals to clutter your desk.) If you're already using Linux, it's great to
have a few extra Linux CDs that you can give to friends who want to give
Linux a try.
Of course, we've got the full distributions too! In fact, we've got the
largest selection of Linux-related items anywhere. If you buy more than $11
worth of products online, you can request one of our cheap CDs free at the
time you place your order.
This discount does not apply to quantity discounts or dealer orders. This
offer is valid for a limited time only. Orders placed previously do not
qualify for this discount.

MEETING NOTICE
==============
Central Ohio Linux Users Group
Saturday, Feb 26th., 1300 to 1500 local
Meeting Presentation
====================
The main presentation:
Phil Hunter, and Jim Wildman will give a presentation on
autorpm and rpm. Jim will be bringing in a RH5.0/5.2 server
which will be updated to the latest packages during the
presentation.
Additionally, and as the upgrade is in process, the local
`guru's' will offer configurartion advise -- bring enough of
a `sick' host along for a diagnosis.
The group has received several packages of promotional
material from LinuxCare, and SuSE this month. Attendees
are going to be glad they came, we'd predict. No sponsor
has comd through with meeting snacks yet, but we remain
hopeful.
As always (both with the informal nature of the group's
`management' and the vaguries of the presenters' schedules),
the agenda and content are subject to change.
MEETING SITE:
=============
This month's meeting will be held at:
TEAM America (http://www.teamamerica.com)
110 East Wilson Bridge Road
Worthington, OH 43085
(614) 848-3995
The building is at US23 North and 270 off of
East Wilson Bridge Road just around the first
curve.
Parking is FREE !
.... The group has met on the LAST Wednesday or LAST Saturday
of a month, alternating by month to allow more folks to mesh
their schedules with COLUG's. Sites and dates also depend
on facility availabity, with common-sense relocation in the
holiday season.
The webpage always has a link to a map to the upcoming meeting
site. See: http://bopper.wcbe.org/~COLUG/meetings.php3
Meeting Schedule
================
The NEXT meeting is scheduled on Wednesday, March 29, 2000
19:00 to 21:00 local -- Location is up in the air -- we've
pretty well outgrown the kindly donated TeamAmerica site,
although we continue to 'shoe-horn' in until a suitable
replacement is found.
