One year anniversary of the "Brave GNU World",
the monthly GNU forum - issue 12 has been released
-- Georg Greve
Hi !
The 12th issue of the "Brave GNU World" column is online
now. It can be found on the GNU Webpage and its mirrors
or follow the links at the end of this posting.
This one is a very special release as it rounds up the first
year of "Brave GNU World." During this year the column has picked
up some remarkable features. Being released simultaneously online
in five languages (English, German, French, Japanese and Spanish)
and printed in the German "Linux-Magazin" as well as the "Linux
Magazine France," the column is the monthly forum with the widest
distribution worldwide as far as I know.
If you would like to receive mail about new issues directly, you can
subscribe to the "Brave GNU World" announcement mailinglist. Just
send mail to <brave-gnu-world-request@gnu.org> with "subscribe" in
the *body*. The mailinglist is only for announcements that are related
to the "Brave GNU World" and is of very low volume (between 1 and 4
mails a month).
The 12th issue covers the following topics:
* GNU Pascal Compiler (a truly Free Pascal compiler)
* Moodss (graphical system monitoring made easy)
* Free Software in the French government
(politics realizing the importance of Free Software)
* One year of Brave GNU World
(how the column came to pass, internal workings
and plans for the future)
This column intends to provide a forum for all GNU maintainers,
friends and associates and I am always open to suggestions. So if
you
* have questions about the GNU Project that might be of general
interest
* have a GNU Project and would like to improve its profile
* would like to start a GNU Project you are looking for people to
start it with
* think something doesn't get the publicity it deserves
* would like to see something made public
send mail to:
"Brave GNU World <column@gnu.org>"
This column is for everyone with an interest in Free Software,
so donīt hesitate to contact me if your project is under the
GPL/LGPL and youīd like to see it introduced here.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
This is to announce the creation of the Linux-Net Project, located
(temperarly) at http://linux_net.tripod.com.
Several years from now, your home or office computer systems could change
from the many boxes around the building to a single, very powerful server at
the center with several termenals feeding off of it. Its similar to a
time-sharing minicomputer, but the termenals could be far more flexible.
For instance, your refrigerator may notice that milk is running low and,
being a termenal, asks the server to put "Milk" on the shopping list. Now
you get the shopping list off of your PDA, which is also a termenal, and see
that you should get milk. It could even be extended so that the server will
watch how much milk, or any other product, your family drinks and will
adjust the ammount you should get based on that.
The Linux-Net Project was started to start researching the possiblities of
modifying Linux for use in just such a system.
