Hi Steve,

from my experience, if you want LILO to work, you must use the Master
Boot Sector of your hard drive. Apparently, you're currently using LILO
in the First Sector of a Linux partition. According to what I've read on
the subject, use the Master Boot Sector if Linux is the only OS on your
machine.

If you have also Windows (i.e. in your case), and want a dual boot, it
is preferable to leave your LILO where it is now, and to add an entry in
the NT loader. Selecting Linux will then put you in the Linux loader.

You can find some methods that configure both the Windows's boot.ini and
Linux's Lilo.config on the web, by searching for "linux boot.ini" (e.g.
altavista).

Also, pay attention not to setup your linux boot partition > 8G. Most of
PC BIOS cannot reach a boot partition that far on a large hard drive.
