Subject: rp-pppoe 1.0 - Robust PPPoE client for Linux
Date: Thu, 27 Jan 2000 20:43:19 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Version 1.0 of rp-pppoe has been released.
rp-pppoe is a user-mode client for the Point-to-Point Protocol over
Ethernet, a protocol used by many ADSL service providers. It runs with
standard Linux kernels (2.0 or 2.2; no kernel modification required.)
Version 1.0 includes improved documentation (compared to the previous
version 0.99b) and experimental support for synchronous PPP, which could
reduce the CPU load significantly.
rp-pppoe is licensed under the GNU GPL. The home page is:

Announces
A New Update
of
the HTML Version of
+++ Using Samba +++
A Free Download
at
http://samba.he.net
http://jayts.cx/books/samba.s.html
http://jayts.cx
Samba Everywhere!
New in this version:
- - Fast and reliable FTP/HTTP server provided by Hurricane Electric
<http://www.he.net>, plus some mirror servers. Many people had
trouble downloading the first release when it was announced, due
to insufficent Internet services. That problem has been (hopefully
100%) rectified.
- - Many more typographical errors fixed. Most were pretty minor, but
some of the typos adversely affected the technical content that was
presented.
All in all, this is a much more polished release than the one that I
announced in December. There are still things that need to be done
(like a functional index, for example) but I'm otherwise pretty happy
with it. In other words, please find some problems and complain about
them! :)

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Hello,
I wish to announce "FreeDict", a free (GPL) project for the creation of
bilingual dictionaries. For many languages, with additional features
such as phonetics and usage information.
For more information see:
http://www.freedict.de
Features:
- - aimed to be used with the dictd server for the DICT protocoll
see: http://www.dict.org
(for example english encyclopedia with more than 180,000 words
is also available)
- - inclusion of phonetics for the languages (unicode databasses)
- - project aims: quality over size
- - currently most major european languages are supported, but the intention
is to increase the database and include not so common languages.
Currently Phonetics is included for English, French and Dutch.
This project is relatively new, so it would be a good time to comment, it is
likely that comments are easier to implement.
You know of someone who could help with the wordlists / software tools to edit
wordlists, please tell them about the project.

Subject: new Linux pre-install program for Windows 9x
Date: Thu, 27 Jan 2000 20:47:16 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
To those who are interested there is a new pre-install program of linux
from windows out.
This pre-install program applies to window 95/98 users only.
The main advantage of the UTDL pre-install program is that it allows you to
start the installation of Linux from windows 95/98 and automates the
creation of a fips partition disk and other boot disks if required. This
has traditionally been the hardest part of installing linux, especially for
new users.
It creates boot disks for you. Although it is not necessary, it is useful
if you wish to install linux on another computer that is not running a
current operating system. It is also possible to begin the installation by
booting on the CDROM, however this is not recommended as you will bypass
the features
This can be found at http://www.utdl.net
regards
Marion

Subject: popsneaker - a powerful pop3 filter
Date: Thu, 27 Jan 2000 20:45:36 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
This introduces popsneaker, a small but powerful filter for pop3
accounts. It's task is to delete mails you don't ever want to
see, before fetchmail or any other mail-retrieval tool downloads
them at your costs. So you can avoid spam and other undesired
things.
The advantage over solutions using procmail is, that you don't
even have to fetch the mail to decide, if you want to read it or
not. popsneaker only retrieves the headers and saves you money
and bandwidth that way.
popsneaker is preferably started in a dial-in script. It uses a
filterfile with easy to use, but very extensive rules. It also
supports multiple pop accounts.
