=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Hi everybody,

sysstat version 2.2 is now available for you who need tools to report system
statistics.

You can find it here on sunsite: ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/status
:
48kB  sysstat-2.2.tar.gz
51kB  sysstat-2.2-1.src.rpm
30kB  sysstat-2.2-1.i386.rpm

This is mainly a maintainance release. Here are some of the changes:
* Option -d added to sar to enable it to be started as a daemon.
* Option -V added to sar and iostat (print version number and usage).
* Fixed a bug that made CPU utilization displayed by iostat wrong on SMP
machines.
* Display improved for iostat.
* NLS updated: spanish translation added.
* Patch against kernel 2.2.13 added for iostat.

NOTE: this will be the last version before sysstat-3.0, which will have a
'sar' that will (at last!) look like other UN*X sar commands.
It will include a data collector (sadc) together with the sa1 and sa2 shell
scripts.
sysstat-3.0 should be ready in January, 2000. So read the news!

cdc_applet Gnome CDROM changer panel applet

Announcing cdc_applet 0.1, a Gnome panel applet to
operate an ATAPI (IDE) CDROM changer. Written
to control a NEC-CR251 4-slot changer, it should
work with other 4-slot changers as well. (More
slots could be added, as well as SCSI support,
if there is a demand for these features. I have
no idea what people are using).

Cdc_applet is based on the elegant program
cdchange by Erik Anderson. The panel portion
shows the current drive in an LED-like digital
display. From the applet's popup menu, the
user can select to change slots, view CDROM
contents(in Gnome Midnight Commander), unmount
or eject the current CDROM.

Download and a screen shot are available at

Subject: Dump 0.4b11 - dump/restore linux ext2 backup suite
Date: Sat, 11 Dec 1999 01:10:27 GMT
Reply-To: Stelian Pop <pop@cybercable.fr>

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Hi everybody,

I'm pleased to announce a new version of dump/restore, containing some
useful new features and some bug fixes.

This could be the last development version in the 0.4 beta series, since
dump seems to be very stable now.

I'm going to release a stable version in a few weeks (if the earth is still
around past december 31 :-) ), so you are invited to test this version
carefully.

Dump/restore can be downloaded from:
http://perso.cybercable.fr/pop/dump
or
http://spop.free.fr/dump

Thanks,

Stelian.

ChangeLog follows:

Changes between versions 0.4b10 and 0.4b11 (released December 5, 1999)
======================================================================

1.      Added a '--enable-kerberos' to configure.

2. Added a 'S' option to dump which determines the amount of space
        that is needed to perform the dump without actually doint it, similar
        to the Sun's ufsdump 'S' option. Patch contributed by Rob Cermak
        <cermak@ahab.rutgers.edu>.

3. Added a 'M' multi-volume option to dump and restore which enables
        dumping to multiple files (useful when dumping to an ext2
        partition to make several dump files in order to bypass the 2GB
        file size limitation). The 'f' argument is treated as a prefix and
        the output files will be named <prefix>001, <prefix>002 etc. With
        the 'M' flag, restore automatically selects the right file without
        asking to enter a new tape each time.

4. Fixed a memory leak which was causing dump to grow very big
        (270MB when dumping a 10GB filesystem...). Thanks to Zaphod
        Beeblebrox <zaphod@netrider.org.au> for reporting the bug.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

I'd like to announce the arrival of the Beta 2 release of LinuxSeeker,
a (yawn!) new Linux package search engine. LinuxSeeker attempts to
draw together package information from a wide range of distributions
and other sources, and to provide a wide range of search options.

LinuxSeeker can handle queries like:

        * list details for packages with a name matching "After*"
        * ditto but restricted to Debian
        * ditto but show only i386 and source packages
        * list all updated packages for the latest RedHat release

        * where can I get packages with names matching "After*"
        * ditto, but I want an FTP server in Germany (UK, US, ...)

        * list all packages which contain the file "pnpdump" (bit slow, this one!)

        * show all packages in the RedHat category "X11/Games"
        * show RPM details for RedHat package "netcat"
        * show DEB details for Debian package "net-acct"
        * show all files in Slackware package "netpipes"

        * show all LSMs with names matching "*net*"
        * show all LSMs with the keyword KDE

Currently, LinuxSeeker scans packages in the following distributions,
based on FTP mirrors in the United Kingdom.

        * RedHat 6.1 and 6.0
        * SUSE 6.2
        * Slackware 4.0 and 7.0
        * Debian slink
        * Mandrake 6.1
        * and the main SunSite archive

I intend to add other distributions, plus other package sources (for
instance, KDE and Gnome) shortly. At present, LinuxSeeker contains
information on around 25000 packages (many of which appear in more
that one distribution, of course!)

LinuxSeeker should know about FTP mirrors in various countries around
the world. Initially, it only knows a few, and not all have been
extensively checked to ensure that FTP download URLs point to the
right place. However, those for the United Kingdom should be correct
as these mirrors are used to retrieve package information.

LinuxSeeker is currently at:

        http://www.min.a-i-s.co.uk

I'd like to thank Agricultural Internet Services (http://www.a-i-s.co.uk)
for their generosity in allowing LinuxSeeker to run on their web server.

This is the Beta 2 release. To date, it has been checked by myself and
a very few other people. All feedback welcome. Please see the Beta test
and feedback pages.

Regards
Mike Richardson

DESCRIPTION
    smtm, which is a not overly clever acronym for Show Me The
    Money, is a simple stock ticker application for quotes from
    exchanges around the world (as long as they are carried on
    Yahoo!, that is). It creates and automatically updates a window
    with stock quotes from Yahoo! Finance. When called with one or
    several stock symbols, it displays these selected stocks, and
    also record the symbols for later use. When smtm is called
    without arguments, it reads the symbols tickers from a file.
    This file can be created explicitly by calling the Save option
    from the File menu, or implicitly whenever smtm is called with
    one or more symbols.

    smtm display the full name of the company, the price change and
    the percentage change. Loosers are flagged in red. smtm can be
    used for North American equities, as well as European ones. It
    should work for other markets supported by Yahoo. Due to the
    limited amount of information provided by Yahoo! for the non-
    North American quotes, only the symbol (but not the company
    name) is shown. However, a name can also be given by the user
    (see below).

    The quotes are delayed, typically 15 minutes for NASDAQ and 20
    minutes otherwise, see http://finance.yahoo.com for details.

    smtm has been written and tested under Linux. It also runs under
    that other OS using the perl implementation from
    http://www.activestate.com. In either case, it requires the Tk
    module for windowing, and the LWP module for data retrieval over
    the web.

EXAMPLE
      smtm --file ~/.telcos "BT.A.L:BR TELECOM" T \
                            BCE.TO "13330.PA:FR TELECOM" \
                            "555700.F:DT TELECOM"

    creates a window with prices for certain telecom companies on
    stock exchanges in London, New York, Toronto, Paris and
    Frankfurt. The selection will also be stored in a file
    ~/.telcos. Note how names are specified for the European stocks
    (to overcome the fact that Yahoo! UK does not return a name).
    Quotes have to be used to prevent the shell from splitting the
    arguments containing spaces.
