MandrakeSoft is very proud to announce the arrival of Jean-Loup Gailly
who was named as Chief Technical Officer. Jean-Loup has been a long
time contributor of free software. He is the author of the compression
utility Gzip and co-author of the compression library Zlib.

In the past, Jean-Loup Gailly has also been a member of the team who
specified the Ada programming language designed for highly reliable
software systems.

Jean-Loup will be responsible for the production of the Linux-Mandrake
distribution and will manage the dozens of MandrakeSoft programmers
and the hundreds of contributors who work on Mandrake.

"We are very honored that Jean-Loup accepted to join us in our project
of making Linux available for the masses", said Jacques Le Marois,
President of MandrakeSoft.

"It's a pleasure to be employed by a company that is so devoted to
open-source and has a very high potential on the Linux market in the
coming years", said Jean-Loup Gailly.

HI!

I would like to announce a new version of web2ldap (formerly known as
ldap-client-cgi.py), a full-featured LDAPv2 client written in Python
designed to run as a CGI-BIN under the control of a WWW server.

It's available for free (GPL) from

  http://sites.inka.de/ms/python/web2ldap/

There's also a working demo there.

I would like to encourage people to give feedback about the usability
of this program.

Ciao, Michael.

Changes since 0.5.0:
- - complete re-design of modifyform to make it possible to change
  objectClass attributes.
- - minor enhancements of user interface
- - some small bug fixes

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Hi all,

I have recently updated the Sendmail-IGA, which is a german guide to
sendmail, that takes care of the problems with typical dialup-lines,
such as "no FQDN, no DNS,..."

The new version of it is 3.1, the most important changes are:
  * a chapter about relaying
  * a makefile (my first own makefile ;-)
  * the original author, Volker Müller, and I have agreed to a licence
    for this document.

You can find the sendmail-iga at: http://home.pages.de/~sendmail.iga
There are an online version, the LaTeX-Sources with examples and a
postscript-version.

Feel free to send me feedback.

Bye
Michael Lestinsky

System Manager in a Box v1.0p1 and ShoutPlug released

System Manager in a Box v1.0p1 (Patch Level 1) is now available
for download from PegaSoft at the SMiaB home page:

  http://www.vaxxine.com/pegasoft/smiab.html

The new version fixes all known bugs in the v1.0 installation
script, including the false reports of missing files.

ShoutPlug, the first plug-in for System Manager in a Box, checks
the configuration of ShoutCast MP3 audio servers
(http://www.shoutcast.com), detecting more that 50 configuration
problems. It's available for Red Hat 6.0.

A multipurpose system administration tool, SMiaB offers
tuning suggestions, locates configuration problems, monitors
system activity and provides job control. Using artificial
intelligence techniques, SMiaB can perform more than 2000
system checks, reporting not only which files have problems,
but which systems are affected and why. SMiaB is available
for most Linux distributions.

Visit PegaSoft's web site for more information.

Subject: Disc Encryption: first live quality ppdd version
Date: Fri, 19 Nov 1999 01:14:40 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

- -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

PPDD is an encrypted device driver for Linux. It creates a device which
looks like a disc partition on which you can then create an ext2
filesystem. The underlying data storage can be a file on a normal
filesystem or a complete disc partition. All data written to this file
or partition is encrypted using the blowfish algorithm.

Special emphasis in the design has been placed on the fact that data on
disc has a long lifetime and that encrypted backups may fall into the
wrong hands. The use of master/working pass phrases and the ability to
enter very long pass phrases on two lines add to the security.

The driver concept also allows the root filesystem and the swap device
to be encrypted. In effect this means that with the exception of a
kernel and a small initial read-only ram-disc image, everything on disc
is encrypted.

Beta test versions have been available for about two years and the first

"production" quality version 1.0 is now available.

So far only the Intel-86 architecture is supported.

I have a web hosting service as a side buisiness, and in the spirit of
giving back to the community, I wish to host a web site that deals with
open source for someone for free. Well, I want a banner ad or tag line
or something. :) Other than that, I am not going to have stupid popups
or anything like free homepage servers. I have though about putting up
one of my own, but having no ideas that are not already done.... :)

The site will be hosted on a REdHat 6.0 server running apache on a DS-3
line.

Remember to remove this nospam when you hit reply.
