Then try ...

   R O C K S ' N ' D I A M O N D S - V e r s i o n 1 . 4 . 0

"Rocks'n'Diamonds" is a colorful, fast-action, arcade style game for your
Unix-like operation system with color X11 (or DOS/Windows, if you have no
real operation system handy on your computer).

The new version 1.4.0 comes with over 10.000 new levels created by players
and converted from "Emerald Mine Club" disks, "DX-Boulderdash" and "Supaplex",
adds more enhancements to the level editor, brings new elements for building
"Diamond Caves II" levels and contains a lot of new and brushed-up graphics
especially for the "Supalex" levels.

Other features of Rocks'n'Diamonds that are already known from the previous
version are stereo sound, multi player support (over network and locally),
multiple joystick support, completely customizable input devices, smooth
soft scrolling with 50 frames per second and the availability of the complete
source code.

Reply-To: Sean Rima <thecivvie@softhome.net>

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

I am pleased to announce the release of Uptimer 1.0.2.

uptimer adds your current uptime to your .sig file or alternatively another
sig file which can be specified on the command line. The default .sig file
must be in your HOME directory. The uptimer program will run on a console
to show you a sample of what your sig file will look like. It does not
write or amend your .sig file but writes to stdout. uptimer can be used
with most Email and News programs although it has only tested it with TIN
and MUTT.

Changes:
Several bug fixes including removing some debugging code. Uptimer now
searches for the following 4 sig files and will use the first found:
..sig .signature sig signature

Uptimer is Freeware and precompiled on a 486 using 2.2.12 but should operate
on most versions of Linux.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

The Linux Kernel Archives, kernel.org, has gotten a major update.
After suffering with insufficient bandwidth for far too long, we are
now operating with a dedicated 100 Mbit/s connection from Globix. VA
Linux gave us a really nice new box to run it on, too; so it is really
a wonderful setup we have gotten.

Not only should this resolve the bandwidth shortage, but hopefully
we'll be adding new services soon. We have already added anonymous
rsync services for the benefit of unofficial mirror sites.

I'd appreciate hearing requests for new services on kernel.org, just
email me at hpa@kernel.org...

Subject: signature 0.01 - dynamically produced sigs for e-mail & news
Date: Fri, 5 Nov 1999 21:51:59 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Announcing the first release of signature, 0.01.

signature is a free, open-source producer of dynamic signatures for
livening up your e-mail and news postings. It will allow you to sign
your messages with a different sig every time.

The idea for the program came from an old Perl script in the Camel
Book that demonstrated the use of named pipes.

This C implementation was written as an exercise in programming. I'm a
UNIX sysadmin, not a professional programmer, although back in the
dark ages I used to program quite a lot for pleasure in BASIC (back
when they still used line numbers), Pascal, Modula-2 and Z80
assembler.

In recent years, I've more or less used Perl exclusively, and - since
Perl is such a flexible language - I just never got started on C. I
decided to change all that recently, so I've been doing plenty of
reading and signature is pretty much the first fruit to come of that.

The software can be obtained from:

    http://www.caliban.org/files/signature-0.01.tar.gz

RPM format packages can be obtained from:

    http://www.caliban.org/files/RPMS/signature-0.01.i386.rpm
    http://www.caliban.org/files/RPMS/signature-0.01.src.rpm

The source code is available under the GPL 2.0 licence.

Subject: Mad Bomber 0.0 - Atari 2600 "Kaboom!" game clone
Date: Fri, 5 Nov 1999 21:53:19 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Mad Bomber 0.0 has been released for Linux.

"Mad Bomber" is a clone of Activision's 1981 Atari 2600 classic, "Kaboom!,"
written in C, using Simple DirectMedia Layer libraries for graphics and
sound (so it can be ported to Windows, BeOS, etc.).

The object is to move buckets left and right to catch bombs which are being
dropped from the top of the screen. If a bomb hits the ground, you lose
a bucket and go back one level.

Mad Bomber can be played with either keyboard or mouse, by one or two
players, or in a two player "versus" mode (where player two controls the
bombs). A "zen" mode is also available to turn off the photorealistic
background graphics and use original-Kaboom!-style graphics.

Mad Bomber 0.0 is available as a 2326Kbytes (2.28Mbytes) source tar-ball.

  ftp://ftp.sonic.net/pub/users/nbs/unix/x/madbomber/

There is a web page with more information, links to the SDL library, and
screenshots:

Enjoy! If you like Mad Bomber, please take a moment to share your thoughts
at The Linux Game Tome!
