I'm pleased to announce http://www.icewalkers.com launch
IceWalkers.com is intended to provide to authors
a main place to announce their last software
release. It already offers some unique features,
like the ability for users to rate any application.
Even if more than 500 applications are already
indexed, the site stills in Beta stage, so any
feedback will be welcome.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Hello Everyone,
After a few weeks of furiuos development & field testing, I decided
it's time to announce it formally:
My all new Linux FAQ has been created and is available from my
home page (http://www.bigfoot.com/~swietanowski).
My motivation: I just realized, I end up answering the same questions
on news groups over and over again. It gets boring after a while, as
you might imagine. The answers I put up there are (hopefully) more
comprehensive, carefully worded and in general better than what you
might expect me to post just off the top of my head.
I'm not trying to replace the "official" Linux FAQs maintained by the
Linux Documentation Project.
All input is appreciated, both positive and critical. The positive
comments make me feel better, the negative ones help me improve my
page.
Regards,

Subject: Release prototype-1.2 - quick generation of Makefiles
Date: Tue, 5 Oct 1999 19:06:45 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Description
- -----------
The "prototype" package helps you with generating Makefiles.
The aim of this package is to make it *extremely* easy to create
new projects, consisting of multiple directories with lots of
Makefiles - often without the need to edit any Makefile at all.
The "prototype" package only works together with GNU make and
gcc/g++ (or egcs); only the Best is good enough :). Obviously this
is not a problem on linux. You can make your projects more
portable later, if needed, by starting to use GNU automake instead
of "prototype".
NEWS
- ----
1.1 --> 1.2 `make depend' now allows to use '-M' as flag to $(CC)
next to the default '-MM'. Set `DFLAGS' in
$(BASEDIR)/Makedefs.h accordingly, or change the default
in $(PROTODIR)/Makedefs.h.
1.0 --> 1.1 The extension of C++ source files can be chosen by means
of the environment variable `CPPEXT'.
`SRC', the variable used to list all source files in a
projects (sub) directory has been spliced into `CSRC'
and `CXXSRC'. Likewise, `CFLAGS' into `CFLAGS' and
`CXXFLAGS'.
Background
- ----------
The "prototype" package has been used for a few years while developing
a large C++ project. It has hardly been tested for C projects though.
Hopefully this new version will support C sources (*.c) equally well,
as it should work with a mixture of C and C++ sources.
Downloading
- -----------
You can download prototype as well as more documentation and
examples from http://www.xs4all.nl/~carlo17/prototype/

Hello,
I've just finished a job for HP, which consists of the realisation of a
document explaining the sizing of machines under Linux and a presentation
of the system for internal use by HP.
We have agreed on the possibility to make this document a more general
docuement, the HP-HOWTO, which gathers moreover the informations on the
page I maintained on the HP machines supported by Linux (which will no more
be maintained under that form). This document in it self is free.
It could be read by anybody wanting to have informations on Linux with
HP products. The first part is generic and gives informations related to
Linux and Free Software. The third chapter is the equivelent of my old
page, extended with a lot of data.
It was realized in SGML/DocBook to allow the automatic creation of various
formats, among them :
HTML : http://www.medasys-digital-systems.fr/linux/HP-Howto/HP-HOWTO-FR
RTF : http://www.medasys-digital-systems.fr/linux/HP-Howto/HP-HOWTO-FR.rtf
PS : http://www.medasys-digital-systems.fr/linux/HP-Howto/HP-HOWTO-FR.ps

TXT : http://www.medasys-digital-systems.fr/linux/HP-Howto/HP-HOWTO-FR.txt
YES ! for the moment it's only a french document. It should be completely
translated in english at the end of 1999. As my english is not as fluent
as my french (you can read it :-), any help in that area is welcome.
For those reading a little french (some parts are not language dependent
to much), don't hesitate to give comments on errors, missing points or
things to add. I surely have a lot to do in order to produce the 1.0
version :-)
Happy reading,
Bruno.
PS: Those wanting to help concerning my poor use of SGML are also welcome :-)

With aumix, you can adjust an audio mixer from the console, a terminal,

(help on that would be welcome).
Robert Siemer reported, and suggested a fix for, a bug when working under
Linux. It is corrected in this version. Chris Piazza ported aumix to
FreeBSD. Caldera Systems donated an icon. Thanks to all of them for
their contributions. Other changes are listed at

If you have any feedback which can be public, please join the mailing list

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Announcement for Moon-buggy version 0.4.1
=========================================
I'm proud to announce the release of Moon-buggy, version 0.4.1.
Moon-buggy is a simple character graphics game, where you drive some
kind of car across the moon's surface. Unfortunately there are
dangerous craters there. Fortunately your car can jump over them!
As the program's version number indicates, the program is not yet
finished. Nevertheless the code, which is already there, seems stable
and the game is playable, now.
The program is supposed to compile and run on any POSIX compliant
system which provides the curses library. But at the moment it is
only tested on GNU/Linux systems.
NEWS:
Version 0.4.1 contains some bug fixes and minor improvements over
version 0.4. Most prominently it supports setgid usage to enable
shared score files.
You may get moon-buggy via ftp from "sunsite.unc.edu". It is in the
file "/pub/Linux/games/arcade/moon-buggy-0.4.1.tar.gz".

From: Lynn Holt <lholt@greensand.net>
Subject: Pagen - A dynamic SQL->Web page Generator
Date: Tue, 5 Oct 1999 19:16:33 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Pagen is a application generator which allows you to develop
dynamic web pages that contain User input and Output to
PostgreSQL. It is GPL and free.
It is written in Perl and requires Apache with mod_perl,
PostgreSQL and of course Perl to be installed on the
host machine.
Pagen is made up of 40+ perl scripts that an "Author" uses
to produce the final script which Users can surf to. It
allows the Author full SQL access to the PostgreSQL database.
The Author can then control what the user can Insert, Delete,
or see in the database, via the User page.
There are also tools to allow the inclusion of most any html
like text and images and tables and such, and tools for
creating a database and it's tables. All Automatically.
There are also provisions for several Authors to work at the
same time and not interfere with each other.
You can see a short demo at
pagen.greensand.net/pagendemo/index.html
The code can be downloaded from
pagen.greensand.net/download/
Send me a virtual beer if it pleases you. Any suggestions
as to how one might make the install simpler are welcome.
I'm a bit new at this business.
