Keen Little Rabbit Ears is an easy to use ear training program for Linux.
It was first distributed as "perfect pitch", but this name is registrated
in the US. So I decided to rename the program.
Version 0.6 is now available at
http://www.forwiss.uni-erlangen.de/~msnutt/sound/keenlittlerabbitears/
and will be soon available at sunsite.unc.edu /pub/Linux/apps/sound/misc
Keen Little Rabbit Ears requires the installation of Perl (Version 5),
Perl/Tk, Perl::MIDI and an extermal MIDI player, like timidity (Verion 0.2i).
Keen little rabbit ears is written in perl, uses Perl/Tk for the user interface,
Perl::MIDI to write MIDI files and timidity to play MIDI files.
Cheers Matthias

other minor adjustments in behavior and appearance in this release.
The Buzzer Electronic Notebook is a program for storing information and tasks.
I often found that I had important information spread out all over my home
directory in various files. I wanted a place where I could keep everything,
and have it easily accessible. That's what this program is for. One of the
things I found was often in these files, was lists of things that needed to
be done for a particular project. For this reason, I added the to-do list
items.

Subject: Sing Along Disc Player - 2.1.2
Date: Thu, 30 Sep 1999 22:39:45 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
It you never heard of sadp:
This is a CD player with extended features, as spectrum analyzer,
oscillator, on-board mixer, access to Internet data bases and more.
Size about 205K, Requires XForms 0.81+ Console version (ncurses)
is rather old and does not support Internet data bases.
Don't waste time on reading the rest, just go to SADP home page
to find more about it:
http://www.alphalink.com.au/~michg/ace/sadp
If you use sadp version 2.1.1, the information below
will help you to decide whether you need to upgrade it.
The changes are really negligible.
Here are the most important ones:
1. CC and CFLAGS parameters.
The configuration script now processes CC (compiler name) and
CFLAGS (compiler flags) shell variables. By default it uses gcc
with '-m486 -O2', but you may prefer, for example, egcs with
'-mpentium -O6'. It's all up to you now.
2. Font style and resolution.
By default XForms uses a rather generic font names, that
makes the choice of actual font dependent on a number of
factors, such as order of font paths in XF86Config. I was
surprised to find that XF86Config supplied with some
TurboLinux releases uses a rather odd sequence of paths
that cause really weird appearance of text. This has been
fixed now. xsadp will always load the correct font, if it is
available. In addition new resource settings: -font and
-fontres, that allow to set font appearance (lucida, courier)
and font resolution.
3. Email submission.
No you can identify yourself as you wish! xsadp will
first try SMTP login with specified name. If it fails,
anonymous login will be attempted. In all cases the
recipient will obtain specified identification. Since
someone may argue that this idea can be compromised,
I want to observe that as a Linux application, xsadp is
design for intelligent people.
4. Support for XForms 0.81 and 0.86
No matter what manual said, xsadp stopped supporting
old versions of XForms from 2.0.0. Now the manuals
are adequate again. The problem is that all former
users of XForms 0.81 now switched to 0.88 ...
5. V-scale parameter for oscillator. Will appear in v 2.1.2c.
Not available now, but will be at the time this message will
be published (it takes more than a week, till c.o.l.a.
announcement gets to the auditory).
Fond more in CHANGES file.
Does anyone use sadp on a non-Intel platform ?
I am interested to get a feedback especially from
big-endian machines like Mac or Amiga.

xfigchart.pl is a quick and easy way to create bar charts that can be used in
LaTeX via XFig. xfigchart.pl uses a commandline interface. It takes data
values as a table and writes an XFig file to stdout. Postprocessing of the
bar charts has to be done manually in the free vector drawing tool XFig, so it
is possible to easily create very complex diagrams mixed with other graphics
components in a short time and having all the advantages of XFig including
a lot of export filters.
Example:
xfigchart.pl -3d -boxwidth 900 > screenshot1.fig
1.1 2.1 3
4.9 3 3.3
2 3 4
<CTRL-D>
Version 0.4 is a bugfix release. xfigchart.pl is available at
http://www.eda.ei.tum.de/~mcp/xfigchart.html
Examples, screenshots, and documentation are available there as well.

Subject: yplot 1.0.2: a Yorick language binding for the PLPlot library, binary
Date: Thu, 30 Sep 1999 22:39:04 GMT
=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Y P L O T
---------
A Yorick interface to PLPlot
This is to announce the availability of an updated Yorick language binding
for the PLPlot plotting library.
Yorick is a fast interpreted matrix language in the spirit of Matlab and
others, but with a C-like syntax. And of course it is free, with source code
available under a BSD-like license.
See ftp://ftp-icf.llnl.gov/pub/Yorick/yorick-ad.html for more details.
PLPlot is a vector plotting library with support for several devices,
including X11, Postscript and more. It can plot several types of 2D and 3D
plots and contains extensive support for different vector fonts.
See http://emma.la.asu.edu/plplot/ for more details.
Yplot
- -----
Yplot provides several new yorick commands to make use of the PLPlot
library. It also comes with an extensive tutorial with several examples to
get you started.
Availability
- ------------
A minimalist yplot home page is at
http://www.srl.caltech.edu/personnel/conrad/yplot.html which provides
links to download versions of the source and RPM binaries for Linux on x86
and alpha. The x86 version was built on Mandrake 6.0, and should be
Redhat-compatible. The Alpha versions were built on Redhat 6.0.
To use yplot, you need the following:
plplot-990122-2.ARCH.rpm -- binary PLPlot library, with ARCH the architecture
yorick-1.4-14.ARCH.rpm -- binary yorick distribution
yplot-1.0.2-1.ARCH.rpm -- binary yplot distribution.
yorick-1.4-14cpq.alpha.rpm -- binary yorick distribution built with the
Compaq C-compiler
The sources for these packages are also available at the same location.
These packages should also be available on ftp://contrib.redhat.com when
the maintainer gets back from vacation. Don't hold your breath ;-)
RPM Packaging
- -------------
Note that the PLPlot library mentioned above is based on a new developer
snapshot from the PLPlot home page. Furthermore, the rpm versions has been
modified by Alan Irwin (irwin@beluga.phys.uvic.ca) relative to the
developer's snapshot to fix several labelling bugs in the plotting code,
include the new PLPlot documentation effort, and facilitate the rpm build
mechanism.
Licenses
- --------
Yplot itself falls under the GPL. PLPlot is now also GPL'd, while Yorick
falls under a BSD-type license.
Changes from 1.0.1 to 1.0.2
- ---------------------------
Added the PLPlot functions plsxax, plsyax, and plszax to yplot to help
control whether or not scientific notation is used for labels. Use help,
plsxax, etc., at the Yplot command prompt to see the API for these new
functions.
It turns out that it is critical to have a blank start the documentation
in yplot_body.i for all commands. A few of the commands where this standard
was not met have now been fixed so that their documentation is now
accessible from yplot help.
Automatically create doc/yplot.doc corresponding to the current yplot
commands as part of the build process.
Changes from 1.0.0 to 1.0.1
- ---------------------------
Make the yplot version of pljoin conform to the plplot version:
Now:
func pljoin(x1,y1,x2,y2)
/* DOCUMENT func pljoin(x1,y1,x2,y2)
Joins the points (of type double) (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) using the current
line attributes.
*/
Was:
func pljoin(x1,x2,y1,y2)
/* DOCUMENT func pljoin(x1,x2,y1,y2)
Joins the points (of type double) (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) using the current
line attributes.
*/
