You don't specify how long this pledging period would be, but I think that
if its being stretched over christmas, it probably would be pretty long. The
relevant question is probably why it would be so long...
Here is the appropriate Entry from the National Pledging Standards:
3. The length of a pledging period. An appropriate period of pledging should
be not less than six weeks nor more than ten weeks in duration.
Rationale: Pledge membership and the period of pledging must provide adequate
time for pledges to acquirethe knowledge and skills neccessary to function as
active members of the Fraternity, and as officers of thier chapters and to
develop the commitment for continuing service throughout their collegiate years
and beyond. Pledgeship, whether as part of a structured pledge class or
through individual contracting, must provide these opportunities but must not
last for such a time as to interfere with other obligations of the pledges.
(P. 38 of the plege manual)
End Quote. Also restricting yourself to one pledge class for the year has
disadvantages.

The National Pledging Standards have changed some over the years, I think
it used to say 6 to 12 weeks. The question is how will the extra weeks make
them better brothers when they initiate.
