My Brothers:
Over the last few years, I have witnessed many events of our chapters
ranging from the quiet dischartering of our Alpha chapter at Lafayette College
in Easton Pennsylvania to the thundering voices of Censure call of Warren
Weidman region II director.
I hope my words will reach the people it needs to. The Gerry
Schrader' s, the Jack McKensie's, the Actives, the inactives, the alumni, the
pledges, and to all who make this organization on of the greatest organizations
of service to college, to community, and to country.
Last December, I went to Boston to find myself in the faces of 2000
plus Brothers. I was entertained by the masses of new friends and new
adventures. You could say the Boston Harbor lit my pathway to continued s
service. I fell in love of fraternity, love of continued service, and love of
the many faces I was able to meet.
It was a beautiful sight to promote our precepts. But now I wonder
of our existence. Have we become so blinded we don't see our fellow Brother
have we forgotten why we are here, have we remembered our origin but forgot
the paths we made? I am Eagle Scout, born to fly; dreams to dream; thoughts
to provoke. But where are my fellow Brothers...where have we gone astray?
In Boston I served on the Public Relations Committee, an appointment
I deeply appreciate. WE pondered the thought--what is the role of Public
Relations to our organization. We considered that good and bad PR is better
than no PR at all.
Now I reach that perhaps one of our chapters is being put on pro-
bation...what am I to think? What should I think? I know Ellen Kranzer
must be sitting to herself...as she reads the notes that flash the APO-L line
What was that? What is that? What, no! Not That!
My Brothers, let us remember our focus, our precepts, our order.
This is not the time for tearing down bridges and putting up walls. We
should be building bridges--among the BSA, among our hetero and homosexual
brothers, with the Girl Scouts, with anyone, anyplace, anything that wants to
contribute to service! We should be tearing down walls--accepting all who
want to contribute to our order, with anyone who stands for Leadership,
Friendship, and Service. And if, if we can build the bridge and tear down
the wall, we can enter a renaissance of Alpha Phi Omega!
And let us move forward, let us move ahead, let us be as one swift
flying Eagle--ever mindful, ever serving; let us go to new heights--true
to self and to each other-firm in loyalty; and let us become truly the greatest
service organization--long may we always be!
