Hello fellow brothers...forgive me if I am not quite on topic. I first
got around to re-subscribing two days ago. I believe one of the recent
discussions is lack of participation. I want to comment on the service
program her at Chi Gamma (JMU in VA). We have requirements in our
by-laws that specify that all active brothers must, as one of their
requirements, have a total of 25 sevice hours by the end of the semester.
(10 of these HAVE to be done with the fraternity). At our weekly brother
meetings, our service vp passes around the sign-up sheets for the upcoming
projects as well as informs us of what's coming in the future. We do NOT
have weekly requirements because we realize that for some people there ARE
those weeks of pain (i.e. 3+ tests and lots of reading/papers) so it's up
to the brother to decide what times during the semester are best for him/her.
We've had people go above and beyond and we've also had brothers get just the
bare minimum, which is understandable for those awful course-load semesters.
The point that we stress is to just DO service, when you can do it. That's
the important thing. If anyone is interested in seeing a copy of CHi Gamma's
bu-laws, send me personal e-mail...and I'll do my best.

Stacy Flechner
