Brothers,
I want to take a survive about the quality of pins from Balfour. When I
pledged the Fraternity in Fall of 1989, our chapter had a max of 2 bad
service pins (i.e. the backing won't stay in place, you couldn't get the
backing off, etc...). Last year, we had to replace close 6 or 7 pledge pins
and 5 or more service pins. It can get expensive for a chapter to do
this every year. :(
In the last couple of years, the quality of the pin had decline greatly.
The number of defect has increase at an alarming rate. I know of brothers
in my chapter who don't wear their service pin because they are scared of
loosing it. The same goes for the pledge pins.
Another thing is the weight of the pins. My service pin is heavier
than newer brothers. The shaft of the pins have been breaking off
easily.
I would also like to get your reaction about the design of the
life membership pins and the quality of them. I know of a brother
who has purchased 3 new ones because the other ones broke for him.
The reason for the survive is present a report to the National
Office. I don't think a person should be afraid to wear their pin
or have to purchase a new one very couple of months.
I believe the quality should be better than it is at the present
state. I also believe the National Office will not act on this
issue until the members start to complain about it. We need to
talk about this issue because I heard many complaint about the
pins a the National Convention in Boston. I also listened to
brothers discussion about them at several regional and sectional
conferences.
