Strange, I would figure if they would outlaw one or the other, they should
outlaw fall to give freshman time to experience non-greek life.

The University can pretty much do what ever they want. One chapter was put on
probation by the school beacuse they didn't read the University regulations on
Hazing and pledging to the entire chapter.

>And particularly to APO being a NATIONAL SERVICE fraternity? WHY or
Check exactly how the policy would be written. It is quite possible for
policies to be written on pledging that don't include APO. At Frostburg State
Univ. The Socials can't pledge first semester freshmen, APO can do it.

The situation that the alternative membership program was originally designed
for was the university totally outlawing pledging. The problem with applying
the Alt. membership prog. to your situation to this is that half the brothers
in the chapter would have gone through pledging the other half through the AMP.

That could get messy.

All in all advice: Yes they can do this. Ideaas like this get floated around a
lot. If they are serious, the chapter can try to fight it or try to explain why
it should only apply to the socials (Not a way to get the socials as friends) A
more direct cry for help to your advisors and sectional chair would be useful.
Consider the fall pledging vs. spring AMP situation. And don't think of it as a
death sentence either. There are chapters that only run one pledge class a year
if the school circumstances force that.
