Well, this whole concept of requirements (both service hour and other kinds
of required aqctivities) have been bounced about at Epsilon Zeta for many
years now. We don't have any kind of requirements for active membership
right now, and whenever we talk about it, we get lot's of complaints:
- "I'm taking 48 credits and I don't have time to go to service projects."
- "I've got a 10am class on Monday morning, and I have to get to sleep early
on Sunday night, so I can't make a 7pm Brotherhood meeting."
- "I'm an officer, and the duties on my office keep me so busy I can't go
to service projects."
EZ _does_ have lots of projects (2 or 3 a week) as well as a year-round book
exchange and a lost and found; however, these seem to be kept running by
a core group in the chapter--there are other brothers who are "active" who
do nothing for the service program.
Not to say that we worry too much about this situation. There are, however,
a few of us who feel that the chapter could benefit from some "required"
service on the part of the Brothers.
