My name is Bill Kuhfal. I am a past region 7 director. I am currently an =
advisor to 3 chapters ( TCU, SMU, University of North Texas). I have =
been an advisor for 21 years now. The experence I have gone thru is that =
a member should be away from his/her home chapter for at least 3 years. =
The rational for this is this. How does a chapter member see that =
person. Does he see that advisor as an alum, a person who just a short =
period of ago was someone hanging out with the chapter. Or does he see =
someone who does have an objective point of view, who is removed from =
direct personnel issues. After 3 years, the chapter membership would =
pretty much be made up of newer members who do not remember that person =
as a member.
A chapter advisor can be one of the most difficult positions in APO. You =
have to have that sense of when to say something, but most importantly =
when not to say something.
I have seen members who just recently became alums and become very good =
advisors. But it was very difficult on them.
I hope this helps.
Yours in Leadership, Friendship, and Service,
Bill
