I'm afraid I can't cite a source, nor really confirm the information, but
this may help someone else in searching for the answer.

I was told once that UMOC started no later than the 20's. It was a social
Greek thing initially. Ugly was actually an acronym for understanding,
generous, loyal, and youthful, consider to be qualities of an outstanding
young man.

I've heard the time frame and acronym often enough that it's either true or
one heck of an urban legend. I suppose any organization really could have
started it as a fundraiser.

Can any confirm or disconfirm that information?

Chris
