I'm not sure where it started. Alpha Chi started running UMOC in the early
50s. I forget the exact date off the top of my head -- sometime between
1951 & 1953. In those days, T&T ran a lot of 'how to' articles. According
to AX's records, the chapter got the idea to do UMOC from one of those
how-to articles in T&T. Unfortunately, the T&T issue in question is one of
the few that isn't in AX's archives. Apparently though, the article had
fairly detailed information about running a UMOC. Again, off the top of my
head, I don't remember the date of the issue, but it's probably in the time
frame 1949-1952. The info in AX's office didn't include the name of the
chapter that had written the T&T article, though they do mention that it
had been written by a chapter. My own suspicion is that it is one of the
inactive chapters (or one that has a period when it was inactive) since
"Where did UMOC start?" seems to be a recurring question and I've never
seen any chapter claim responsibiliby.

P.S. These days AX runs UMOC as "Ugliest Manifestation on Campus". There's
a container of milk that has run for something like the last 10 years (Yes,
the same container of milk. Yes, it's a real item. Yes, it's pretty ugly at
this point.)
