True- this "article" seemed to be an essay for a class that was posted on
the web, and cause and effect of the fact is open to personal conjecture. I
am just curious to hear from Alpha Rho on this or see some archival article
on the campaign, if one exists.

This may also be a case of an editorialist not knowing everything. The
writer of this quote may know that Janis was voted UMoC in 1963 and that
she left the campus soon after. However, the source the writer was using
may not have mentioned whether or not Janis intentionally ran in the
contest and whether she viewed being voted UMoC as a positive thing. If
these bit of information were missing from the writer's source, the writer
merely _assumed_ that it was a small-minded and petty thing.
