Iota Phi has always been a pretty large chapter - back in 1994 there were
probably 200-250 active members. Families in Iota Phi (Loose, Close and
Tight) are just a way for pledges and brothers to know other brothers easily
without being a lost face in the crowd. Also, during Revealing week, it's
also an easier way to all go to restaurants or have house potlucks, instead
of getting a reservation of 100 at Dennys :)

In Iota Phi during my experience, Revealing was (and still is, I think) a
*HUGE* deal - a whole week is devoted to this as a pledge, you get gifts and
cards and notes, there's practically a social event every day during the
week, and it's topped off by a huge ceremony where you have to guess your
Big Bro. It makes a lasting experience as a pledge, so much so that many
members still keep in touch with their big/lil bros, even when if they
become inactive or graduate.
