Remember back in the spring when it was posted here about a Filipino movie
from the early 80s on Alpha Phi Omega? It was called Batch 81.

Shortly thereafter, round about memorial day, I ordered the film. It arrived
in June and another brother and I watched it soon thereafter.

It's actually about a fraternity called Alpha Kappa Omega and there was no
service done in the movie. Still, there seemed to have been similarities to
APO- for example, the founding of this fraternity was in 1951 according to
the story, which is one year off of the 1950 founding of the Filipino
organization.

regardless of whether it is or isn't based on APO, it's a pretty violent
flick. definitely an R- rating, and more drama than comedy. It's mostly in
Tagalog with some English and Spanish thrown in. Hazing is an international
language- you can figure out most of what's going on despite any language
barrier. As a film, I found it quite interesting and a bit shocking.

If anyone's interested in seeing this, let me know. I will use discretion as
to who I invite over to see it- you'd definitely have to be well along in
APO years or preferably alum/staff. I wouldn't show this to prospectives,
pledges or newbies.
