At this site: http://www.seascout.org/about/history/photos1912.html are several interesting photos of Herbert G. Horton, one of our Founding Advisors.
These were taken in 1919. There are 3 photos with Horton in them. In some he his refered to as "Fleet Portmaster", which is a little confusing to me. For those not familair with Sea Scout terminology, "Fleet" indicates a National level, but "Portmaster" refers to the District Executive for Sea Scouting. So they have mixed National and Local level terms. Or did it mean that he was the top executive for Sea Scouting at the National office?? Something I will have to look into. One refers to him as Lt Horton, USNR (US Naval Reserve). As these were taken in NY, Horton may have been the Council Executive in that area, then later moved to Easton, PA, prior to Frank Reed Horton meeting him in the early 1920s. Another states that Horton was an illustrator for the 4th edition of the Sea Scout Manual! This was the first true American Sea Scout Manual, and one I have yet to personally see.
