Brothers:
New Orleans was my 3rd nationals. In my opinion it was one of the most well-run conventions in a long time. The problems I heard about were mostly about the hotel operations. A water main broke yesterday at the hotel, leaving the entire facility without water for six hours. This, at the same time as more Sugar Bowl fans were checking in, and APO'ers checking out. Total chaos reigned in the lobby for that. The elevators were busy, but was much better than the past two conventions. I easily waited 30 min. for a elevator in Minn. and Philly. The escalators helped a lot getting up to the 5th floor, where most of the convention activities took place. Banquet ran a bit long for my tastes, but hey, that's how most award banquets go!
Legislation wise, I know the honorary membership was raised from $5 to I think $20 or $25. Debate on that seemed circular.
Leadership kicked off the new LD program 'APOLEADS', designed to replace the FDW, LDW and eventually the current CPW structure. They had three of the five new ones - Leadership, Explore, and Achieve. We'll be seeing summer dates for Leadership labs/CPW's soon. Over 200 Brothers went through LEADS at conference. As a LD person, i'm quite excited about the future prospects of the program.
SRW will be Aug 1-3rd, with a safari theme. They moved it up a week. Same place though.
That's all I can remember at this time, after being up for two days (and I know i'm not the only one out there like that!) Looking forward to Denver in 2004, and the leadership labs this summer!
